The death penalty has been an issue discussed on the state and federal level. People ask whether it is humane to take the life of someone else as a punishment. People also argue the opposite saying that because someone killed another person, that means we can take their life. California state governor argues that his reasons for granting 737 prisoners reprieve of the states death row was because, “I know people think an eye for an eye, but if you rape, we don’t rape”. However, there are other people that argue the death punishment provides an understanding and ultimatum for those wanting to commit a crime. Each death penalty averaged $1.26 million which is a lot, if the death penalty were cheaper then the United States wouldn’t have to spend as much money on prisoners however, right now the cost for the death penalty is very high. A person serving a sentence for life costs on average $45,000 annually which adds up quickly. Should the death penalty be enforced or abolished?

The death penalty must be forced into indefinite abolishment, as it provides nothing but the loss of opportunities. In the big picture, there are many functioning individuals that are put on death row who want nothing more than to have another chance at life. Prison is suppose to be a time of reflection, but it has been altered by the outside public to be a place of unforgettable punishment. While some may deserve this current course of action, others need a positive way out from this stagnant resolution in which both sides ultimately lose. Abolishing capital punishment allows for greater investments into police forces, where we can prevent people from committing these irreversible decisions. With that, funding facilities that are geared towards rehabilitation will provide people with the needed mindset and help aid them in becoming advocates in our society. This all contributes to a greater good and strays away from the simplistic idea of the death penalty.

Some criminals cannot be fixed by just a time of reflection. They serve no purpose to society and many are deserving of the death penalty.

The death penalty gives job opportunities and without it our economy would shrink. the death penalty is also there to make sure that people do not go to far or kill the wrong people.

The death penalty should continue because without it, criminals would see no major consequences for the action of taking another’s life. The death penalty is only used in extreme cases where it really is appropriate. If we took it away major crimes would increase substantially.

Do you not believe that people can change and that they should not be given a second chance. That we should just go back to the hanging people.

We examining capitol punishment on an economical level, it cost U.S. Citizens significantly more money in tax payer dollars to execute individuals than it would to put them in prison.

Taking someones has never been something that anyone takes lightly, but does taking someone's life for the benefit of everyone justify that means. It is not just everyday people that deserve this punishment they are people that without a benefit of the doubt done something that we as Americans view as unforgivable. The truth is by doing this we are acting no better, every person deserves a second chance, no matter what it costs. Why can we not develop a program for these "unforgivable" people a second chance?

I believe many do deserve a second chance but there are some who do not. The problem lies in deciding who gets one and who doesn’t.

Many people who are sentenced to the death penalty have committed numerous horrific acts. Most aren't one simple crime that puts them in that position. They are basically given many chances already and if they don't know that what they are doing is morally and legally very wrong then there are some other underlying issues that should be dealt with.

I agree to many aspects of this proposal, as a nation we could place that wasted money spent on capital punishment, and better investment it into rehabilitating those individuals.

I believe that the death penalty is necessary in some cases. For certain crimes, it should be the only option. Those who have permanently destroyed a piece of society with their actions often deserve to not have a place in that society. According to https://www.prageru.com/video/is-the-death-penalty-ever-moral/, many believe that "keeping all murderers alive 'sanctifies the value of human life' but the opposite is true. Keeping every murder alive cheapens human life because it belittles murder." If murder was punished the same way as other, not as serious crimes, then murder itself would be brought down to the level of those crimes, lessening the value of human life. If every murderer was allowed to keep his or her life, more damage could be done to other "prisoners, guards, and innocents". Furthermore, more tax dollars would be spent, making sure that the person who committed that gruesome crime would receive three square meals a day and a place to sleep at night.

Everyone has to pay for their actions in some way or another. If we were able to get to the root of the problem such as putting higher stakes on helping our communities keep mentally healthy and safe then maybe people wouldn't get to the point of committing these crimes that put their own life on the line.

Like you say many tax dollars are spent keeping these people alive. The cheapest way would be to continue using the death penalty.

The death penalty is an inhumane manipulation of human power. Even in this day and age, the death penalty is an aggressive shove of white supremacy towards people of color and ethnic races who are of the highest threat to the death penalty. The rate of accidental execution in the United States is greater than that of any country who also insinuates the death penalty on unlawful residents. In the past year alone, 10% of executees have been found innocent after their governmentally issued death had occurred. Not only this, but the cost of capital punishment annually is over $150 million compared to that of the cost of implementing rehabilitation programs into communities at $11 million. By executing criminals, we are turning our backs on not only the policies and laws of human justice but on the moral and ethical values that we inherently possess.

Those criminals lose their basic human rights when they commit atrocities that would be considered deserving of death. We do posses certain values but those values will not be kept if their is not hatch punishment for serious crimes.

The death penalty should be enforced. There are crimes that can be committed that are deserving of death. It is also very expensive to keep criminals in prison, so the cheap option would be to allow the death penalty to continue being enforced.
