Oh, those first drafts...

Ernest Hemingway is famously credited with asserting that "the first draft of anything is shit."  While not recommended language for high school students, I am not one to argue with the man who wrote For Whom the Bell Tolls.  Since we are all adults and this is a college class, I don't feel we need to dance around this one small word too much (I mean, Chaucer used it in The Canterbury Tales nearly a thousand years ago).  Rather, we will explore Hemingway's sentiment by reading a selection from Anne Lamott's famous tome on writing, Bird by Bird.
