What is postmodernism?
Clear as mud, right?
Well, in a nutshell, postmodernism has to do with deconstructing social constructs that we assume are normal or natural (language, right vs. wrong, gender identity, religion, etc.). On a structural level, books were experimenting with this, as well, and one of the most notable, or obvious, examples is the intrusive narrator to remove us from the imagined reality of the book (escapism) and remind us that we are reading a work of fiction.
Enter Slaughterhouse Five.
