Marijuana has been making a legalizing sweep across the United States. There are already 10 states that have legalized it with more to follow, under the idea that it will help people medically instead of being an intoxicating drug. The controversy lies in whether medical purposes great advantage the possible harmful effects, but we now know for a fact that it is more harmful. Studies have shown that marijuana can cause psychosis and schizophrenia which reflects what is happened in the states that have legalized it. Since states like Oregon, Colorado, Alaska, and Wahington have made it legal, crime has dramatically been increased. The biggest concern with legalizing marijuana lyes in the availability of children. When marijuana becomes legal, kids get easier access to the harmful drug through their parents causing serious brain damage. Are the dangers of marijuana greater than the benefits, and should it be legalized?

The two common forms of marijuana are CBD and THC. THC is the form that produces the "high" teenagers seem to love and CBD is generally used as the pain killer. The problem with growing CBD is that it has to be managed to prevent any growth of THC. Growing marijuana can invite crime because of the potential THC. I believe that CBD is good for those who need it but this brings up another problem. It's a common opinion that CBD is too easy to get. As it is a drug, those who don't need it shouldn't be getting it. THC is destructive for those who use it. Teenagers won't always see short term effects but there is a consequence for all of our actions and users will see it in the future. For Idaho, it is my personal opinion that marijuana shouldn't be grown here but, CBD should be available for those who need it, and THC should remain illegal.

Medical cannabis and recreational weed are two very different things. One is intended to relieve pain, inflammation, and several diseases, while the other is used for entertainment. Since these are completely different products they should be treated accordingly, one should be completely legal, and the other should remain illegal. Although medical marijuana should be available for those who need it, it should still be banned from all others.

I agree that medicinal cannabis should be legalized but it's very hard to keep one around and one outlawed when they come from the same plant.

CBD for people who need it is not a bad thing. It can be destructive though when used by people such as teenagers who don’t need to be using it.

There is a drastic difference between medical and recreational use of marijuana. For the most part our country does realize the positives and negatives of the drug with the exception of a few states.

“[... ] for it’s negative consequences”, what are these consequences? Not all the consequences can be negative. People still use drugs for a coping mechanism. This isn’t healthy, nonetheless people still do it. If they didn’t use drugs, is it possible they’ll be worse mentally?

The entertainment purposes could be legal. Until more information is available on the effects it should remain illegal.

You say that "medical marijuana should be available for those who need it [but] it should still be banned from all others" but what qualifies someone for medical marijuana use? Some use it to potentially treat seizures but some use it for as little as foot pain.

Marijuana must be legal for medical purposes, but medical purposes only. It needs to be treated as any other drug used to aid with health problems and heavily regulated by doctors. Legalizing marijuana for any other intention would cause significant issues in our country. The drug drastically hinders its user’s ability to function and think clearly. This causes people who use the drug to make bad decisions that they wouldn’t make normally. There is no plan for how to manage the inevitable affects of marijuana when used recreationally which would make it difficult control properly. The troubles marijuana would cause are not worth legalizing it for those who use it and want to legally. Like any other drug used for medicine, marijuana has unwanted influences that are not needed outside of medical requirements. We must have the ability to use marijuana if it truly is the best option for a health concern. With that being said, it will need to be administered by a doctor and not used if unnecessary.

If doctors treated it as any other drug it could potentially be controlled in the same manner and be successful.

Like all prescription drugs, it can fall into the wrong hands. Do you think Medical marijuana has influences that many people will be interested in if they can legally get their hands on it in Idaho?

Agreed, marijuana if legalized, must only be fine for the use of medical help. Yet do you believe it will become easier to for those to get ahold of the drugs through family members using them as prescribed?

Just legalize it fully. People will still just use medical cards to get it, this really changes nothing.

Marijuana should be legalized for medical purposes. If marijuana is a medicine that can help certain types of illness we’d be foolish not to use it. However, we should not legalize it for any other purpose or use. Legalizing marijuana everywhere for anything would put an even worse look on the U.S. than it already has. We don’t know all the long term effects of marijuana. The short term effects are bad enough. The costs are much greater than the benefits. Legalizing marijuana for medical purposes can help with finding cures for illness even more. Legalizing it for anything else would just create more, unnecessary problems.

You state “...we’d be foolish not to use it”, I agree, we need to take advantage of the medical resource we have at hand. The fact that we are watching people suffer, when we could help them is absolutely “foolish”.

Legalizing marijuana for all purposes will amplify the use and misuse of such a drug. With easy access to marijuana, it becomes evident that drug users will gain an addiction more easily. Illegalizing marijuana for medical needs, is unnecessary. Why would we illegalize something that can cure somebody? Therefore, marijuana must only be legal to an extent. For everyday uses that has no positive purpose yes, marijuana should be illegal. Yet if used for medical purposes absolutely should marijuana be pronounced legal.

The use of the drug for medical purposes has been in practice for some time now, the big question is will society accept nation wide use and legalization of marijuana?

Technology and research has allowed us to understand the benefits and drawbacks of this drug in different dose sizes. With this knowledge, we should be able to control what goes out to the public and not legalize recreational marijuana so that people don't have the temptations of addiction.

This is a stupid question. Why wouldn’t we want cannabis to be legalized, we are the people. It would create jobs and get a lot of people out of trouble with the government. It’s the tycoons that control the economy and the government that don’t want it legalized due to their greed. Cannabis keeps jails full which in turn does pump the economy, but in the wrong direction. They also don’t want people smoking’ dope, they’d rather them choke down antidepressants and pay them to do it.

There has been a falsified view on cannabis which had lead to the destruction of many peoples lives. Legalizing it will solve this problem and project our economy in a positive direction.

The use of medicinal marijuana must be legalized in America, due to the noticeable benefits it provides to people's health and well-being. Marijuana in quantified doses is an effective pharmaceutical drug that can cure a range of mental issues. It is reliable and has no potent or life-threatening characteristics. With that, the recreational use of cannabis needs to be abolished, as it suffocates the true potential of our society. It idles a person's desire to be productive and in mass can cause irreversible destruction to our nation. This ongoing dispute between what is right and wrong in the world of marijuana use must be settled. Taking this course of action provided eliminates the problems that come with this product, while only illuminating the benefits.

By legalizing recreational marijuana, we as a society are setting ourselves up for failure. We know that in this form it is not beneficial and only causes issues and addictions.

Medical marijuana and recreational marijuana are two very different things. The medical version has CBD which acts as a pain supressant where as recreational contains THC which is extremely addictive. The benefits of CBD have proven to be very helpful for people with chronic pain or illness as well as a variety of other medical conditions. Recreational marijuana containing these high amounts of THC are becoming more and more accessible to teens and young adults which is causing developmental problems and other surfacing issues that are in no way beneficial. The harm that comes from the use of recreational marijuana is not something to be taken lightly which is why it should be illegal.
