The presidency of the United States has always stood as a position of leadership, someone who has communication, integrity, accountability, empathy, humility, vision, influence, positivity, delegation, confidence. As we look back on our presidents we remember Washington for his courage, Jefferson for his equality, Lincoln for his empathy, and Theodore Roosevelt for his drive. All of these great leaders have accomplished tremendous good for our country. Leaders, however, and men with hearts for goodness are not the same thing, Adolf Hitler is also known for being one of the greatest leaders and the worst human of the 20th century. As of a couple of weeks ago President Joe Biden gave his first address to Congress. Stating what he wants done and what he has done in the last one hundred days. Before this address and especially after he has been under strenuous ridicule and has been seen as an incapable leader. Does President Joe Biden have good qualities and has his old age influenced these qualities.

Yes his age is a problem, he’s too old. The United States needs to start finding younger presidents. In recent years the candidates have slowly started to get older. Getting younger president candidates would certainly help shape the United States into a better place for all those involved.

Almost all presidential nominees are above the age of 50. It's hard to be nominated if you haven't had many years of experience before then.

A younger president, even if not a better president would create an image of strength. That would certainly benefit the country, assuming that person is capable of the job.

Do you think most Americans have noticed this trend of presidents getting older each election? If so, what do you think we could do about this potential problem?

The President of the United States must be seen as the strongest leader. President Biden's age somewhat damages the image of a strong healthy leader, but old age can also be seen a sign of a more knowledgable individual. Biden is a wise speaker in the sense that he can appeal to the emotional aspect of people's lives, but his stutter leads to the conclusion that his thoughts are unclear and his mind is not fit for leading the country. Every leader has strengths to display but they also have weaknesses to conceal if they want to be seen as a leader.

Except our leaders need to be seen as perfect. It’s impossible for anyone to be “perfect” but our presidents have to have little to no record or history of them doing bad things.

President Biden may have some strengths, but like you say weaknesses need to be covered up. He is not a quality speaker and it causes people to question his abilities.

Often times President Biden appeals to much to the emotional without giving the facts. While his points can be good and his trying to get the point across that he is for the people he needs to combine emotional with fact based evidence.

Seeing Biden's weakness through his public speaking is troubling to those who look up to him and expect to see a strong worded individual in front of them.

Age is not a problem, assuming that person is mentally and physically capable of the job. President Biden seems to be lacking in these areas, which makes the country question his abilities. Until recently he had not clearly even stated his goals for his presidency. Maybe moving towards a younger aged president in the future would help the country’s view of them being a strong leader.

It is definitely more difficult to find a younger candidate for the presidency who still has enough experience and fits the requirements.

Our government often times seems to be filled with older leaders maybe we should promote younger leaders in the U.S. government. The question is how young is inexperienced.

It’s important that you mentioned that older age itself is not inherently bad for a leader but if there age is limiting them, it is bad.

Joe Biden’s age is something to consider. As we’ve seen through his campaign and any time he does a public speech, he, at times, has trouble stringing words together to make a coherent sentence. At other times, he gives great advice due to his experience and knowledge. The flaws that come with old age do not look good on one who is supposed to be a leader of a country.

We have to accept that at some point age will get the best of us. That's why I agree with you when you say that these flaws should not be something we should have to worry about when we think of our highest leader.

Agreed. His thoughts and speaking are starting to alter already because of how old is he.

The day-to-day stress that comes with running a country also act as a catalyst to one’s age, as seen with Barack Obama in his two terms as a president.

With age typically comes wisdom. In some situations, to much age is not beneficial. When choosing a candidate for the presidency we should thoroughly evaluate their past experiences, education, mental awareness, and physical health in order to discern their eligibility for this high powered position. Joe Biden surely has plenty of life experience to back him up but due to his age and physical and mental state, this may alter how he already has and will make decision. For this reason we as a country need to set different age standards before throwing just anyone into office.

I agree that not only should there be a minimum age for which one can run for president, but there should be a maximum age as well.

I feel that in recent years we have moved towards political parties with significantly older candidates. Whether this age provides wisdom and knowledge, or concern and misguided beliefs there are always many factors to consider when electing a president. However, the considerable gap from Joe Biden‘s generation to that of of our current society has definitely provided problems within our country. I feel that a younger president, who has more understanding of American’s contemporary culture would be better fit in the long run.
