Death is inevitable. People die for so many different reasons, fatal crashes with vehicles, bodily functions failing, diseases and viruses, etc. Death is hurtful and most of all, fearful. We fear the unknown of afterlife more than we fear anything else in the world. It also keeps our world going. If people don’t die, we overpopulate even more than the world already does. Utopia’s are often worlds with no death, people are invincible instead of death being inevitable. In a realistic aspect, more deaths will better the world. It would lessen the people in the world and with this comes so many positives including, equalizing food for people, everyone has a job, less houses which means more refurbished nature, and so on. Would you rather live in a world with no death at all or a place where death was more common?

If we lived in a world where death was more common then people would give a greater value to their time on earth. People might work towards living life to the fullest at a younger age and have less of a fear to take risks. This also might mean that they don't have the desire or see the benefit in staying in school or going into a permanent career since their lifespan is limited and they would rather spend time accomplishing memorable activities then pursuing long term lifestyles.

Every day would count for so much more if death was right around the corner. People would have the drive to accomplish their goals because their time is possibly much shorter.

Yeah but then again people do just poison themselves to feel good and make the pain go away. If there is no death, there is no relief for all the years of pain that’ll inevitably come.

Since life is relatively short people try to do as much as possible during the time they are here. I think if life was even shorter than it currently is, then everyone would become much more reckless and brave in trying new things. People everywhere would be focusing more on what brings them immediate joy.

Who the hell would pass up immortality for living in Africa? If everyone lived forever, then people would take far more risks than they do now. People look at life as a one way shot and if they mess it up too much with bad decisions then it’s over. People fear death, so take it away and people have nothing to fear. That’s either a really scary society or a really peaceful one.

Immortality would lead to people making decisions that they would normally never make. Without fear people would live more on the edge and make bad choices.

I believe that if everyone was immortal schooling would be extended and life would be more organized and planned. Everyone would want to have their life be perfectly arranged from the start since they would be here forever. I think that life would lose all meaning and just be a continual process of slight improvements.

Fear would be basically eliminated, that’s a good point. Fear stops a lot of people from doing things and without fear a lot more risks would be taken.

If people lived forever then it would be more difficult to convince everyone to form a working society since there is really nothing to be gained in the end. I believe it would make people much more lazy then they already are.

This is a well thought out point to this proposal, do you think that if immortality would provide a lifestyle that is less efficient then our current way of living?

A world with no death would cause life to be under appreciated. Without death, life has very little value compared to life that does come to an end. Death pushes us to accomplish as much as possible in life and without that people would have no incentive to fulfill any goals. What happens if nobody ever dies? People would start to look for something new and question what’s next in their never-ending life. The reason many humans would like a perfect world without death is because of the fear that is associated with death and the unknown that comes with it. For many others though death is not and should not be feared because they have knowledge of the good to come after they leave the earth.

Life without death is meaningless. The overall goal as humans is to survive, and if survival is guaranteed then the entire point of living disappears. If immortality was guaranteed, we would lose the enjoyment and happiness from all experiences since there will be plenty more opportunities in the future. Relationships would also lose their value since there would be no risk of losing ones partner. Death must remain part of our lives to maintain the significance and happiness of living in the first place.

I mean I know plenty of people without any incentives to complete any goals in life as it is right now. I agree an infinite lifespan would create more lazy people.

Life without death does not have any meaning, but the reassurance that we are going somewhere better makes the fear of death non existence.

Death does give life significance. Without it we would be left alone in a world that would be even harder to find happiness than it already is.

The significance of death also lends itself to people pursuing something greater then themselves, such as having healthy relationships like you stated or having the desire to make other people's life experience better.

I disagree with the notion that death provides “happiness of living” I believe that death actually strips ones potential happiness for our minds are to infatuated with death to enjoy all of life’s journey.

The thought of death does have an impact on the way we want to live our life. It is important that we don’t take that for granted, I cannot see a world where I do not have to fear death as being progressive.

Our world has undeniably become overpopulated and oversaturated with man-made creations, which combined has caused damage to our fastly depleting world. The idea of creating a social system that encourages death in a way that is comfortable and relative to the common man would be a solution to all of our worlds greatest problems. The only issue with this ‘opportunity’ is that as a society we would have to overcome the moral dilemmas that come with this proposal to this utopian lifestyle.

I do not believe that killing people would create a utopia. Unless completely governed and controlled allowing all people to believe that this is a good idea, which as you stated people would have moral dilemmas making it unstable.

A world with more deaths makes sense, but then you are creating a dystopia. As we have learned through many books, all utopias are not perfect but to create a dystopia is not any better. Killing people and deciding how dies creates chaos and having no death creates endless world problems. Both of these systems also require a strong government with the people in little control creating more problems like class separation.

This is a valid statement, I do believe in a world with no deaths it is still nearly impossible to find middle ground of death. Do you think a government would be able to control this, or is there too much involved where the people take over?

There is no date for death. The thought that tomorrow could be our last day, motivates us to gain as much experience in each day. Without that thought there would be no motivation to survive. Life then becomes under appreciated, there would no longer be any desire to fulfill goals. Often times while going through life the natural human pursues what they love. Whether it is for a job, a hobby, or a weekend adventure. We try things because we are interested. In a world with no death there would be nothing to push ourselves to find what we are passionate about. We would then have no consistency when finding new employees for, schools, hospitals, or research centers.
