9am-5pm, 5 days a week. That's how the majority of people spend their lives working. With this method "working" for so long, it's no wonder that there’s not much call for change. After all, “if it’s not broke, don’t fix it”. But some would argue that it is “broke” we just might not realize it. With that, the proposal of working 10 hours a day, 4 days a week, rather than 8 hours a day, 5 days a week has been brought up. This all begs the question; is the extra day off worth the two extra hours a day or is the way we’ve been doing it for so long the best way.

The method that we have done so far is the best way for work schedules. If we did a four day week people would not be able to get nearly as much done. The hours at the end of the day we become far less productive. Also, many people already work more than five days anyway, so for those who work long weeks and long days, nothing would change.

Do you think that all the regular 9-5 jobs would become less productive? Another point to consider is would putting more time together rather than dividing it help people become more productive?

It would be very hard to change everyone’s work schedule across the country and not worth it to just keep working the same way we have for the last few decades.

How do we know it’s the best if we’ve never tried any other schedules?

I believe the way it is now is fine. If you’re unhappy that you work 5 days a week then let that motivate you to get a better job where you don’t have to do that. Especially with minimum wage looking like it’ll be raised, why wouldn’t you want to work more?

This new schedule would give people the opportunity to work more hours if they wanted and everyone would still get the whole day off.

The amount of hours you work do not change it is how much you want to work one day so you don’t have to work another day.

For any average person this work style may be perfectly fine, but for people who partake in time consuming hobbies or have side hustles, working five days a week may kill their desire to pursue other passion they may have.

It is much more enjoyable to work a couple hours extra each day and then get an extra full day off at the end of the week. This schedule is also more productive because most people would be willing to do a little extra work if they knew they would get a full day off in return. This schedule would also get rid of the wasted time when you first get to work and have to get back into the groove of things.

That wasted time trying setting up and taking down definitely adds up and if it take some you an hour each day every days you are wasting a whole day. Instead of the alternative where you waste a entirely day only once every 10 days.

I feel like it would waste more time because your off more days so now it’ll take longer to get back into the groove of things.

There will always be wasted time with bad workers no matter what hours they work. With a shorter week time at the end of the day will be wasted, but with a longer week time in the mornings might be wasted.

Working longer durations often has the opposite effect, as we see in our schooling system, working more hours leads to a less productive afternoon as many individuals become mental exhausted from the tasks at hand.

Work weeks are already a variety in them. Some people work shifts that’s are not the traditional 9-5 Andy some people already work 10 hours for 4 days it just depends on how the business or job description works. Businesses should be open to having 10 hour 4 day week so but it just depends on the person. Some people would rather have more nights open while other people might want to have more of a weekend. Personally I would rather get a good start to my day work for 10 hours and still have a availed weekend.

It does depend on the person like you say. Some people prefer different work schedules than others.

There are so many job opportunities now days that if a person wishes to have their schedules be more flexible, they will work to be promoted to higher positions or just chose a different career path.

This is a great proposal to solving this issue, however I feel that it would be hard to manage in a real life environment.

Having 10 hour work days four days a week helps promote the mentality of getting the work done first so that you have more time to relax. 9-5 jobs have become so repetitive that after a lifetime of that work style, burnout can happen easily. These shorter work weeks are beneficial not only so that people can have more time to recharge on the weekends, but also to take the habit of being productive and getting things done in a more tasking, yet shorter stent of time into other aspects of life.

This is definitely the way to do it. More life to the people, but I doubt capitalism will allow this. Or just have a weekend shift and a weekday shift.

Working four days a week is a enjoyed privilege, however it is not how the rest of society operates. When looking at Salmon and it’s schooling system from an outside perspective it is very unconventional to have a four day week. Many schools partake in a long work week, for the reason that it allows kids to prepare for the work force where there are five days in a a work week. Additionally I feel that even though working a few extra hours a day to spare an another free day may be convenient, it cause for to much mental fatigue. There are many instances where individuals are unable to function and perform at high standards towards the end of this longer work day. This leads to less productive work and in some cases isn’t as effective as having a five day work week.
