In recent times, the controversial subject of abortion has been high in the news. Abortion, is the "ending of a pregnancy by removal or expulsion of an embryo or fetus before it can survive outside the uterus" (PPH). The debate has mostly been split into two groups, pro-life and pro-choice. Each of these opinions have their own moral, religious, and personal reasons behind their stance on the subject. The most common argument for the pro-life is, that abortion is murder of a human life, that is defenseless, and shouldn't be legal and allowed with no punishments. If people are mature, and capable of having sex, they should be aware of the possibilities that come with sexual intercourse. Pro-choice, on the other hand, argues that it is the right of the woman and her body, and that should never be taken away. Both sides have more points, and ideas to their opinions as well. There has recently been states passing different laws, in some cases causing complete chaos and anger from both sides.
There is a lot that goes into this sensitive subject, but as young adults, we should be able to share our own opinions on controversial subjects in a mature manner. With that being said, what do you think the government should regulate and control for the women's body? Should the laws on abortion be federal or state laws? Will banning all abortions be dangerous to women? Are you personally pro-life, or pro-choice? Why is this topic so controversial and sensitive? What else could communities or the government do to help prevent unwanted pregnancies in the first place?

People have always wanted to alter their physical or biological appearance. While they have been able to do this on certain ways, such as surgery or smaller changes like make up or working out, they have never been able to change their genetic structure. Genome editing is a relatively new process that has come to be a real possibility but like everything, there are several problems that come with it. The positive side to genome editing is that with enough research and practice, it could be used to cure many of the worlds genetic diseases. The process involves taking out a sample of DNA, changing it for the desired affects, and then inserting it back into the person or animal that is being tested. These types of procedures can be used to cure a variety of illnesses such as cancer or other genetic diseases. Apart from that, gene editing could also be used in the future to modify how a person will grow and look. With enough resources, parents would be able to chose their children’s height, hair color, and other physical features.
The main issue that is brought to attention while taking about gene editing is the morality of the situation. Some question if it is right to change what god or biology say a person should look like. Others question if it is completely safe, or if it would lead to disastrous problems such as if they messed up and hurt the person, or since no one knows the long term affect of doing this. What are your opinions on gene editing and if it should be looked into more given the benefits and detriments of it? Should it be used to change physical appearance or only for correcting disease? We have all heard of the Coronavirus and its recent outbreak originating in Wuhan, China but how serious are these cases? Since the virus' came to light there has been 45,166 cases. Out of these cases the death toll has reached 1,115. Out of the total another 4,784 people have recovered from the sickness completely. Overall a total death rate at around 2%, pretty low. The incubation period is between 2 and 14 days before symptoms begin to appear. The symptoms include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Other hospitals recorded muscle aches, pneumonia, and nausea. Though this may sound frightening still about 80% of those people who died from the 2019-nCoV were over the age of 60 and 75% of people who died had pre-existing medical problems such as cardiovascular disease or diabetes. The illness is nothing compared to the amount of people that die from seasonal flu symptoms. Every year the flu kills an estimated 290,000 to 650,000 people.
When I first started researching the topic I thought that that virus was a larger national problem then it really is. Like many other things that the media and news outlets cover it was blown up to scare the general public. Through news stories, memes, and hearing news I had began to worry slightly about the illness. My questions for you include; Had you heard of the Coronavirus? How big of a problem did you believe it to be? Did you know any statistics? Is there any other time that you imagined a problem larger than it was because of news and other sources? It takes a village to raise a child and through socialization they become unique and personalized. Each and every individual possess qualities that are solely their own. The world tends to focus on the negative; what is wrong and what will go wrong. When individuals see this negativity, in TV shows, news articles, social media, and everyday life, they tend to focus on it as well and confine the unique areas of their personality.
The countless individuals that raise children have a monumental impact on that child’s life and help determine the person they will become. Social influence has both positive and negative impacts on everyone’s life. For children, they want to feel loved and belong, if they are rejected and broken by those around them, they will lose their sense of self and be confused on right and wrong, not understanding their personality or their abilities. What are some of the worst ways the world suppresses uniqueness? At what point does a child lose their innocence? Why is it easier for children to have confidence than adults? What are some of the unique attributes that you possess? Do you find it hard to have confidence and stay positive from day-to-day? On January 26, 2020, a helicopter crash claimed the lives of basketball star Kobe Bryant, his daughter Gianna, and seven others that were one the flight. It happened suddenly on a trip to a basketball game and the whole world was taken by surprise. Not only was a world-wide athletic star killed, but an inspiration for so many people and the father of a family. Along with him and his daughter, several other teens and mothers were killed in the crash leaving many families without loved ones.
This kind of a topic is a tough one to discuss because it relates to death. However, death is a reality of life and no one knows when their time will come of what day could be their last. Bad things happen and there is often little we can do to prevent them. Living safely and healthy are preventative methods, but accidents can happen to anyone. It is part of being human. My questions to you relate around the topic of living in the moment. Is there a time you were involved in an accident or scary situation? Could it have gone differently? What do you believe about living in the moment? Why do bad things happen? How do you want to be remembered? As seniors, we are about to learn about a whole new level of independence after graduation. Many of us will go to college or find a full-time job, start paying bills for school or rent, and live with roommates who will most likely be strangers. With this major shift in life, it is crucial that we start planning and preparing, emotionally and physically, for these new, adult responsibilities we will inevitably have to face. But how do we prepare? It is difficult to plan our future when we only have our imagination to form it. We need experience and knowledge of our occupational interests, especially when we are in high school. We also need to know how to budget so that we do not go into debt when we pay taxes and other bills. We should also be excited about the new opportunities adulthood will bring. College offers a variety of courses and clubs, and there are hundreds of thousands of interesting jobs to consider. My questions for you are as follows: Where do you see yourself in five years? What sort of activities do you see yourself participating in? How do you feel about our next big change? What personal strengths do you rely on when facing a new challenge? What support system do you plan on using? What are the most meaningful steps are you taking to prepare? What opportunities do you wish you could have pursued to prepare that were simply not available to you?
