I know it’s not common for us to want to be at school. At least to learn anyways. We get to socialize, participate in extracurriculars, and interact with people we don’t normally do. But, we’re also at school to learn new things and develop new learning abilities. All of us are academically skilled in our own ways and reflect that in our classes, even if they’re not our favorites. But I feel like everyone at least has one class that makes their day better. My question is what is your favorite class you’re currently taking at school? Either because of the curriculum, or because of the people in it.
For me, I really enjoy my speech class. It is a full classroom with 27 kids which made me very nervous at first but it’s a good group. I enjoy speech because I need to develop good public speaking skills for my future career, but also because I love being able to write every week. My classmates make the class fun with humorous speeches, and fun jokes which makes speaking in front of them once a week a lot less stressful. I also enjoy the work. Learning all the different aspects of communicating and developing that into powerful speeches is a good thing to know, and I wish I would’ve know these topics before speaking at all of my senior project events. Although the work load is heavy, I enjoy knowing that these skills will be transferred into my future career and will be used in my future.

Just as soon as the fall was upon us, it left just as quickly. Throughout the fall season people look forward to the night of Halloween to dress up and get treats. There's also a lot of other things about fall that make it so loveable. For example, pumpkin spiced things, scary movies, flannels and the falling of leaves. But as soon as the clocks turned to midnight on October 31 and it became November 1, there was a change in mood. Stores have completely changed the look of everything to fit the Christmas season. People are starting to play Christmas music and food chains are bringing out the peppermint flavoring. My question is, is it too early? As there is still technically a couple weeks of fall and Thanksgiving is approaching.
I personally have already started to play Christmas music in my car or when I'm doing things around the house. I love Christmas music but I won't start decorating until after Thanksgiving. For me it's not officially the winter or holiday season until there is snow on the ground and the lights are up. Especially with us living in Salmon where winter can last for half the year, I'm not quite ready for that. Where Christmas and the holidays bring a lot of joy and happiness for a few months, it can also bring stress. So I say that we can move into it slowly and not rush because that's what makes it longer and more enjoyable. As Idahoans, we've all eaten our fair share of potatoes throughout our lives. It's all we're known for. Idaho potatoes are staples, and yet they come in so many different styles. You got boiled and baked, mashed, scalloped and even more than that. Potatoes are a comfort food and how one enjoys their potatoes can show what they're like. So I'm asking, what's your favorite style of potato and why?
For me, I believe the best potato style is hashbrowns. A lovely golden plate of crispy hashbrowns is the best way to open up a day. Plus, if you smother them in sausage gravy, it's sure to taste even better. I like hashbrowns because of my grandmother, whenever we stayed over at her house she always fixed us up a great heaping of hashbrowns. And whenever she tried to make latkes (Jewish potato pancakes) there would always be leftover potatoes to make hashbrowns for the next mornings' breakfast. It's both taste and nostalgia that gets me coming back. |
