Daily Literary Quote
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. -Martin Luther King, Jr. Journal Prompt What does Dr. King mean by the famous quote above? What is character? Can it be seen? How does “character” relate to fictional “characters”? Provide specific examples.

When someone is judged by their character, it is showing that the person judging know how to look at someone for who they really are. It can also be seen in a way that the person who knows how to correctly judge people can take away differences that people cant control. You can only judge people for their actions and not what they have been dealt for life.

The quote shows how a person should not be judged by what they look like but who they are. Character is who we are and what we believe in. Fictional characters are the way they are described and what makes them memorable. An example of a real character though is David Goggins and his very strong characteristics of hard work.

I believe that he wants people to be successful, no matter if they are judged or not. Character is who the person is, it's them being themselves without letting someone change them into who they are not. I also believe that it can been seen, and no character does not relate to fictional in my opinion because they are real to other people and themselves.

He wants people to live in a world where we aren't all constantly judging by the way people look or the color of their skin. I think character is something along the lines of your personality and how you act as a person and towards other people. Your character can also relate to fictional characters because you can decide how you act towards people and your actions, while you can also decide what fictional characters do and how you can decide what the personality of those character are.

Essentially what he is saying, is that he hopes people can be judged on who they are as a person, and what they do. He wants for people to judge each other based on their character, not on their physical appearance. One's character is how they do things, and how they act around others. Also, character does relate to a fictional character, since there usually aren't the greatest descriptors of someone within a book, other than the actions they perform, and what they say.

We shouldn't judge someone based on their skin color but by their character. We are all different and thats not a bad thing. We each can bring something different to the table, like our character. How we act around others, or how we think.

Character is something we all have. it shows who we are as a person. Seeing it is almost like "Your true colors" how that person acts or thinks in a book is how we usually judge their character. An example of this, in the book I'm reading right now one of the fictional characters is very heroic, he ends up dying to save everyone else in his class. That's an action he took to show his character, but also how someone thinks has a huge impact on it too. Dr. King wants his kids to be judged on their actions, what they do how they think, if they're a good person or not. Not judged by just their skin color

Martin Luther King, Jr is stating in this quote that even though we may have physical differences like race it shouldn't be what defines one another. There is way more to someone's character that helps build them that people should be able to notice. Instead people are just judging based on what they see instead of getting to know one another by actually communicating which helps people learn more about one another.

Character is how you carry yourself along your journey. It is the primary drive in decision-making. As in the hero's journey, the depth of the protagonist's heroism deepens as the story furthers.

What King means by his quote is that the world is often shallow in its judgment. That the world may criticize not by reason, but by stereotype.

Dr. King means that he wants people to see and judge his children by how they act and carry themselves, not by their skin color. Character is more about what's on the inside of a person instead of the outside. We shouldn't judge people on things that they can't control.

Character is a bundle of one's personality, actions, and morals. Character can be seen through one's actions, but character is better described as an outward show of one's inward feelings and morals. Fictional characters, especially in books are almost all character as we are not able to see a person but instead we read their thoughts, feelings, and conversations. For example if one is reading Othello it is very easy to see Iago's character when he goes on and does his monologues with his real thoughts and feelings.

I believe that Dr. King is implying that instead of being labeled and judged by the way one looks, one should instead be evaluated by who they are as a person. One's character is who they are, in aspects of personality, morals, likes and dislikes. The character of a person is everything about them non-related to a physical attribute. Character cannot be seen visually, but it can be seen when getting to know someone. This can be related to the idea of fictional characters, like in books, because we cannot see them physically. We have to get to know them (in a sense) based off of what we read or hear about them. Just like how in order to accurately judge someone's character you must get to know them or be able to "read" them, in a sense.

When King was growing up everyone judged him by the color of his skin before they even got to know who he is as a person. Later when he said that he wishes for his kids to be judged by the character and not the color of their skin, he wishes for people to get to know them before they come up with an assumption about who they are. Character is who that person is outside of their physical appearance, kinda like the saying don't judge a book by it's cover because you never know what their story is. In some aspects someone's character is more about who they are on the inside than what they look like on the outside, their morals, beliefs, habits. In the aspect of fictional characters they are know in books and TV shows for what they do and act in certain situations. Not only that but their personality has a lot to do with who someone is as a person.

Martin Luther King Jr. means that it is all dependent on how one acts rather then their color of skin. I believe a character is part of ones personality as well as distinct qualities of oneself. Characters can be shown through peoples actions when no one is looking. Fictional characters are each different and have attributes that make them the way they are.

He is waiting for the day when people are not racist and base there judging by the character of someone. Character is how one acts or behaves. Yes you can see it. They can relate by the way they act or behave.

He is making a statement about how he believes that the world will hopefully realize that everyone is equal and the only thing that should define people is who they are and what there beliefs are. He uses the word character because its can be used to describe who they are and what they enjoy doing. Character makes a person different from others and can help identify someone as if they are a fictional character.

The most important quality of a person is the way they act and respond to events. Character is the personality of a person, respect, work ethic, and kindness. Yes through time you will discover a persons character through interacting with them. Characters my have good quality the develop and grow as a person and develop character like Luke skywalkers growth to care about a cause bigger than himself.

Dr. King means that nobody should be judged for any reason especially racial status. There is a way in which to judge which is judging righteously and that is by using the content of their character (the persons actions and personality). Character is any person, used in which the identity is unknown. However it is also a person in a movie/novel. Also a persons character is their personnality. Character can always be seen and observed. The character can have an impact on other people to such an extent that they may actually mimick the actions or morals because they appreciate them. Fictional characters "character" is again their personallity, actions and morals. Characters can have their "character" seen in any movie/novel in order to give the intentions of the character. In the novel Scythe - Neal Shusterman, the character of Scythe Goddard had intentions of being the most powerful Scythe. But his "character" worldly corrupt so that his true intentions could not be easily seen by other scythes.

Dr. King is presenting a statement portraying that one day he would have made a big enough impact on the world that his children will not have to grow up the way he did. People should focus on someones character, due to the fact that our character is our personality not our physical appearance. For example, a books character we can not physically see, we have to rely on the author to paint us a picture of how they are like and how they react to situations.

Dr. King is saying that he want equality for there kids, and he wants them to be judged on their actions and not the color of there skin. Character is how a person acts and it can be seen in expression. Fictional characters have a personality or "character" that will provide a lesson. Like in any super hero book their character show the message to never give up.

Dr. King is describing character as how someone is known for their actions and not just how they look. "Character" can be shown by the way someone reacts to a situation, how they show their emotions, and how they treat others. Respect is a big part of "character". This can be shown by the first impression of a person. Developing "character" when inventing characters is important because it depends on what role you would be having them play and how you want them to be viewed.

By character I think he means by what they have done in their life or what they portray. It can be seen by their actions and what they do. A fictional characters character is shown by what there personality is and not there look.

Character is the way we think and actions. I think what Dr. King was saying by the quote is he hopes one day we see people by their actions not their color. Yes you can see someones Character by the way they speak and act. When we read we don't see the characters so authors describe to us their beliefs, and how they act and think towards others.

The great Dr. King means that he hopes that the world changes from being judged on your skin color to being judged on who you are and how you behave. Again a character is how you act, what you do, and why you do it. I think character is seen as what you do and you can see what you do so you can see it. Fictional characters my represent ideas of the real world, like how in the book Milkweed the main character is representative of the idea of light prospering in the dark.

Dr. King wanted a change in the way that people see each other on the outside, so that people would not be judged by their appearance. He hoped that people would be judged more by their character, what they feel or believe. When you judge a character in a book you can't judge they on the way they look you have to judge them by what you are told about their personality because there is usually no picture provided, they way they look comes from your imagination.
