Daily Literary Quote
“I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character. -Martin Luther King, Jr. Journal Prompt What does Dr. King mean by the famous quote above? What is character? Can it be seen? How does “character” relate to fictional “characters”? Provide specific examples.

He is saying that he does not want his children to be judged by the way they look rather than what they have done to make the world better.

charecter is how a person acts or responds to things or how you treat other people.Dr king means instead of judgeing some one by there skin color you judge them on there charecter. charecter can be seen if some on allows to to see there true charecter becuse every one always wears a mask to hid it.

I agree, we should not judge one on just their skin color rather we should judge them on who they are as a person.

He means that his kids can live in a different society than he grew up in. How people act about different colored people. Yes it can be seen because some people are different races than us. Because some people are nice about other races and some aren't so nice about it.

Character is the way in which a person acts, behaves, and lives. Everyone is unique in character and is their own individual person. Everyone can see your character from the way you act around them. I think we associate the word "character" with fictional people because when we think of a charcter we think of how they act, sound, walk, talk, and live. for example when you think of Spongebob you probably think about his high pitched voice and buck teeth. Same as when you think of someone you think about who they are and how they act the same as you would with a fictional character.

I think he means he wants his children to be judged based on there actions and decisions rather than their race. Character is the way you act and how you choose to handle certain situations. yes it can be seen mostly by how you act. fictional characters will make different choices based on how they act and there personality.

He is saying that he doesn't want to be judged by his skin. When he says character to me it means the way he acts and his attitude towards things. It relates to fictional characters because you have to make like an avatar.

the character of a person is how they act, treat others, and perform academically socially or in a job space. The character of a person can be seen in demonstration. A person's character can relate to a fictional character by how a character in theatrical display is used to show the inner person. For example, a Shakespeare act showing a character.

I believe that Mr. King meant that his children would one day be judged by their personality and their choices they made that created their "character" in life. Character to me is someones personality. I have seen many of my friends true characters through their personality. The character of someone defines who they are, like how Tigger the tiger is very hyper and always wants to do multiple activities at once is more likely to make irrational decisions than rational ones

He is trying to get a point across that people shouldn't be judge for what they look like but look at who they really are.

At the time of this speech King lived in the racism era, he was fighting for equality. so I believe Dr. King means he does not want his children to live like him, in the era of judgment for his color but in an era where his children will be judged by their character, behavior or personality. Character is made up of different aspects of your behaviour such as kindess, honesty, loyalty, discipline. compassion and creativity. Character can be seen but only through actions. Fictional characters are "made up" so you have to build them, and give them characteristics. They didn't give the joker hero traits, he was the "bad guy". They gave the hero traits to batman. When making a character you give them the traits that fit the role.

I think what Dr. King is saying is that he hopes in the future people with colored skin will not be judged by the color of their skin but by their personality. Character is who they are as a person and certain characteristics makes them who they are. I think we can see peoples character when we get to know them. For example Moana is self loving, brave, fearless, and capable of anything she puts her mind too. She is a greater leader for young girls to look up too.

Dr. King is explaining that rather than being criticized for the color of his children's skin or the way they look, he would rather have them judged by their character. A character is a way a person acts, thinks, and does. A fictional character has attributes that makes them who they are. For example, Mickey Mouse is friendly, lovable, and optimistic, that is what makes him a great ambassador for a young audience.

Dr. King is saying that he hopes that the world will not see one for color and just for personality. I think character is a person's personality. Character cannot be seen until getting to know a person and how they act. Winnie-the-Pooh is a bear that loves honey and his friends, he is also very wise and that helps children when they are young to be loving and help other people.

Martin Luther King Jr. spoke of the day that him and his children would not be judged by their apprentice, but by the kindness they give to other people, character is what defines you as you, not by actions, but by words and emotions, character is not just a thing easily seen, but easily found, characters in fictional storys build character through out their journey, building emotion, in the "How to train your Dragon" book series, Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the III started out as a weak little nobody, then by book 12, he was the king of vikings.
