The mockingbird is a powerful symbol in the novel, obviously. Who are some "mockingbirds" who do no harm (and maybe even do good), yet are "killed" in some way? Use examples from the text to justify your opinion.

Tom Robinson is a "Mockingbird" because he didn't do anything wrong but he is accused of rape and then is sent to jail, so he tries to escape and ends up getting killed on purpose. Atticus is also a mockingbird because he tries to help Tom but doesn't succeed. They both tried to do good but it didn't work out for them.

I believe that Tom Robinson is the main “mocking bird” in this book. As he is innocent but regardless of his innocents is killed for trying to be “free” like a bird. Tom was said to be guilty on bias witness of the Ewells similar how a mockingbird could be called a nuisance by one person and then possibly killed for it.

The most frequent and obvious would be Tom Robinson, since he was innocent, but got sentenced and literally killed when trying to escape. There's also Calpurnia since she helps out at the Finch's as a motherly figure. However, the aunt comes to stay and she is not having it.

I think Scout is a mockingbird. She helped her dad when those men came to kill Tom. Although she doesn't realize it she helps their family out a lot. And with their Aunty there she is kind of silenced because she has to learn how to be a lady.

Tom Robinson is a main one who comes to mind for me when thinking of innocent people who were killed. He was killed as he climbed the fence as the text states, “They said he just broke into a blind raving charge at the fence and started climbing over right in front of them” (235). He was pressured into trying to escape as it was his only chance since he would die either way.

I think that one of the most obvious mockingbird is Atticus because he's defending an innocent man when no one else is, yet he is villainized by the rest of the community. We can see this when people say terrible comments to his children, and Bob Ewell disrespects him. Another mockingbird is Mr. Raymond because everyone spread rumors about his marriage and accused him of being drunk all the time when he really drank Coca Cola out of a bag and shared some with Dill to calm him down. The third mockingbird is Tom Robinson himself because he helped Mayella with her chores so that she wouldn't be beaten by her father so much, but he was shot in prison after she accused him of rape.

They’re a couple mocking birds but the one who really stood out to me was Tom Robinson. Tom was accused of rape and was then put on trail and later lost even though he was innocent so he was put in jail and later shot because he tried to escape knowing he had nothing else to live for. This just went to show how that back then with racism just because you did right and you we’re different you would still get punished.

In the story, Boo Radley is someone who is terrifying to younger children. Jem, Scout, and Dill trespass onto the property to try to talk to Boo. When the group is caught and Jem loses his pants he comes back and finds that they are folded up. He realizes that Boo isn’t terrifying at all.

Tom Robinson is a good example of a "mockingbird." He does a lot of good and service for others but yet still gets in trouble for not doing any harm. Tom had a lot more hardships than his White peers because he is Black. Atticus can also be a mockingbird, he tries to do good as well but they both end up not succeeding.

I think people who are falsely accused of a crime, especially murder or even accused of rape, who didn’t commit the crime fall under the category of mockingbirds, such as Tom Robinson. He was accused of rape, and even without the evidence, they convicted him because of him being black. I think this is something we need to try to fix, especially in our society today, with people falsely accusing people a lot.

Especially with rape and such, since it can ruin a man's life and reputation, even when proven innocent, and the accuser almost never receives any punshiment.

The mockingbird is clearly a metaphor for Tom Robinson. A man who does no harm, and a bird who does no harm. It is a sin to kill a mockingbird, and it is a sin to kill an innocent man.

Tom Robinson was proved to have done no harm yet was still convicted. Yet he didn’t let the court decide when he died he lost all hope and chose to end his own life. I would say another mockingbird in this book would be Ms Maudie because of her more advanced beliefs she was mocked by the church. The final would be Atticus and his family they are trying to advance equality and save a man yet are made out to be something awful by the town

I think everyday people are mockingbirds in their own way. Everybody is going through something but they are put down for what they believe in, no matter what is. It doesn't mean they have a literal death, but the spirit may be dampened and they may not be the same person after being wrongly judged.

One mockingbird that was killed was Tom Robinson. This is because he was a good morals, civil person. Once he was accused of rape or suggested to do bad things, it was over for him because of his race. Many people shared a mutual agreement that he could have done these things rather than Mayella's father, a white man.

Tom Robinson is like the first person to come to mind with this, the whole trial accurately shows what it would be like to be a colored person in the USA back then. Also Miss Maudie is a mocking bird in this as well, she always knows what to say and is truly trying to help Atticus

I think a person who is an example of this, is Atticus. He does whatever he can to help the people around him and help do the right thing even when most people are against him. But he is cut down because they have voted against Robinson so far. Atticus said this and it just shows how he is a symbol “You just hold your head high and keep those fists down. No matter what anybody says to you, don’t you let ‘em get your goat. Try fighting with your head for a change.”

Tom Robinson first comes to mind because one of the reasons he was treated so harshly was just because he was black and it probably would have been a lot different if he was white. "I guess Tom Robinson was tired of white men's chances and decided to take his own"(238). Even though Atticus had defended Tom he still was found guilty and one of the deciding factors was just because he was black because a white man would have not had as harsh as a penalty as death.

Thinking about the Mockingbirds of the story, there are a couple different examples besides Tom Robinson who was just living his life and got into a situation where he was accused of something he didn't do, which landed him in jail where he eventually attempted escape so that if he died it would be from his own accord.

Some people who can be an example of a mocking bird are Tom Robinson and Aticus Finch. I believe this because Tom is a man who goes to work and helps a woman with her chores because no one else will, and he still gets falsely accused of rape and gets killed just because he is black. While Aticus is a man who tries to do no wrong and does what is right but is called names and ridiculed because he chooses to defend a black man.

Scout is a mockingbird. Her behavior is considered unladylike, so, even though her youthful tom-boyishness causes no harm, her Aunt and the ladies of the community are always trying to suppress this behavior.
