I think some books that might have been banned would be like stories about people struggling with racism or religion and people might find them offensive and ban them. I think people should not ban books because we should all have a freedom of speech and should be able to speak our stories and opinions.

A book that could have been banned is The Scarlet Letter. Books should not be banned because of certain groups not agreeing with them. These groups could just leave the books alone instead of stopping people from reading books that they do not agree to.

I think that as well, that just because a certain group of people don't agree with it's message that doesn't mean it shouldn't be banned, with the exception of religious books.

I think that some history books may have been challeneged and maybe even banned because a lot of topics can be sensitive and offensive to certain people. Or books with sexual content in schools tent to cause some issues with parents because they dont want they're kids exposed to that. I do not think books should be banned, everything offends at least one person and if it offends them then they don't have to read it. It is as simple as that. Banning books is limiting our sources to gain knowledge.

To me, that just seems... awful almost. Just because history makes you uncomfortable doesn't mean you can ban it. That is how we learn. That is why we have history. Yes it can be hard to read, but we need to grow somehow. so yes, I agree with you Shay, that banning books limit our knowledge.

I did not finish but I do not think books should be banned because it could have been something that was normal back then or could restrict a certain religious group from reading about their religion they believe in.

I think books about evolution such as “Your Inner Fish” which traces back the origins of human anatomy with unexpected sources such as worms, flies, or fish. These types of books are expected to be banned in some schools because of certain religious beliefs that go against the idea of evolution. Personally, I believe books should not be banned because everyone has different ideas, opinions, and beliefs. Although it may offend a certain group of people, it may not to the majority. I also believe you cannot grow without discussing or being open to an opposing opinion.

I don't quite understand why they did this. As a religious person, No one is forcing you to read evolution on your own time. Leave people to believe in their religion or scientific beliefs. They need to chill out.

One book I that has been banned in some places is Huckleberry Fin, despite the well written exciting stroy it is seen as having inapporpratie launage usage in it. Also stories that challenge people opinions because people don't want to be thold they are wrong or see different perspectives. Without being open-minded and seeing how other people think and see all different sides of stories we are limited to only our opinoin and have no away of learning or growing.

I think that any religious texts or books that people of the times regarded as heresy were probably banned. I do not think that books should be banned unless they are pornographic or disturbing for no other reason than to disturb people in the fashion of a horror movie, like if they include an insane amount of descriptive violence or torture toward anything living without cause and without teaching a lesson. I feel that material that is disturbing but serves a purpose and a lesson should not be censored, though.

Some books might be banded for explicit content, and sometimes for political, and religious aspects in the book. Yes and no, there are some book that children should not be exposed to at a young age, but when they mature then they should be able to read them if they want.

Huckleberry Finn, Bible, and To Kill a Mocking Bird are a couple that I know of. I do not think books should be banned, because of what we said yesterday, it is technically against the 2nd and 3rd amendment. I also think that just because you don't like what someone said doesn't mean you have the right to ban their opinion.

Some books that I believe may have been banned would probably be The Scarlet Letter, To Kill A Mockingbird, The Catcher in the Rye, The Great Gatsby, and Grapes of Wrath. These books would have been banned because of obscenity, challenge of belief, or conflict with government ideas. I do not believe that books should be banned in an educational environment, however, I do believe that there is definitely a time and place to present certain materials. Certain groups (whether that be age or otherwise) may not be ready to go over some materials, though they should still be given the opportunity to learn about the books and stories that challenge the main system of belief.

I agree with that! Even though the kids wouldn't be ready for those at their age, they will one day! And that right shouldn't be taken away just because of their age at the time. And the opportunity when they are mature enough

Some books should be banned more than others. I think a lot of books about race may have been challenged. I do think that some books should be banned if they are completely pointless and maybe vulgar but most books should not be banned. There are a lot of great things that come from reading and their stories.

Most religious books, since they have no evidence, even though they're supposedly true, and also its messages can get cruel at some points and almost no school has everyone in the same religion. Also porno mags, because you know why.

I think some ways books may have been banned or challenged, if they had smut scenes, offensive contents, or explicit language. I don't think that books should be banned because they add adventure to our life. I do think that certain books should be with held or banned from certain age groups. Such as books that contain explicit language, smut, or items similar to that, should be banned from elementary and middle school, because they aren't mentally mature enough that they should read this.

I think that some of the books that may have been banned had something to do with the time period that they were being banned in and some of the books might have been banned for racism. Also people do not like the ideas of the evolution of people and where everything came from. I think that certain books should be banned for certain age limits and also have less copies of certain books but not ban them completely because this are at least a couple people that would want to read about certain books.

The Bible, huckleberry finn, and to kill a mockingbird are some of the books I know of that have been banned. I think that a lot of books that have been banned should not have, but there is a certain line to which kids should not be exposed. The only books that should be banned from schools is sexually driven books. Books that include science, religion, racism and things along those lines should not be banned from schools. Books explaining history, even if it is offensive to some, is a wonderful way to learn.

From a simple google search on this topic google says that the books that are getting targeted the most are ones about LGBTQ or about being Trans and others about religion and ect ect. I don't think books should be banned, because we can look back and see our history made by humans. We can see how much we've grown and matured since our past. Does this make sense? lol

Way too many books are banned, I could understand banning porn, or books to spread hate. You cannot take away a child's chance to read the books they would like to, gate keeping education is a sure fire way to create issues. Some surprising books that have been banned are, The handmaid's Tale, To Kill a Mockingbird, The Bible, books on Evolution, and even Sex Ed and Puberty books.

Dr. Suess, Huckleberry Finn, The Bible are some books I know have been challenged or banned because of various things that can be considered racist or offensive. I think that we should not ban books like these because in Huck Finn it may say some racial slurs but the overall theme is to not be racist. We can learn from what others have written and change how we live and love one another.

I think books such as Huckleberry Finn may have been challenged. It was written by Mark Twain (Samuel Clemens) who is white, and the 'n' word is used with great frequency within its pages. Such vocabulary was common and accepted at the time, and though the message is not meant to be racist, seemingly to the contrary, the great use of that word may rouse adversity. I think that books should be restricted based on maturity and age, but that restriction should not mean that those people never have the opportunity to read those books if they choose, but rather that those books with severe content will not be deliberately introduced at too young of an age with the sole intent on being shocking and controversial. There are admittedly many gray areas, and hypocritical flaws in this statement though, unless again the novels and ideas introduced are very tailored to the maturity of the kid.
