Analyze the artwork above (The Mysterious Bird [1917], Charles Burchfield). What do you notice? How do the foreground and the background of the painting juxtapose (contrast) one another? What kind of mood does each create?

The painting represents almost a sad day with the rainy/ cloudy sky and the worn dirt road

The painting represents almost like the passing of a storm with the green on the side of the road and the storm clouds in the background

The painting represents a cloudy, sad, blah day. This means like an okay mood not sad but not great.

They road is bright and has color surrounding it. The sky and all around is dark and threatening. It kind of sets a dreary mood like you are surrounded by stuff you don’t want to be around and you just have to push through.

The painting represents how emotions can take control of your life just like the weather takes control of the earth. I believe the background almost has a happier tone to it with the blue tones in the sky and on the ground. The foreground has a transitioning tone almost because of the green grass on one side and the snow on the other.

The painting shows two different seasons. You are leaving what looks to be summer and heading to a winter like landscape. The foreground is welcoming wanting you to stay, the background is almost looking gloomy, uninviting.

I like how you put that the foreground is welcoming like it almost represents someone telling you to stay.

The first thing I noticed is what is presumably a bird flying through the grayish day. The cloudy sky gives off a gloomy atmosphere.

Part of it is a little drab and it creates a sad feeling. Down the road looks a little more colorful and there is an area in the sky where the dark clouds dont touch which kind of shows an area of light

This painting creates a foreboding and sad feel. the foreground has lighter colors which makes it seem a little happy but once you look towards the background it then turns back to being gloomy. The trees give it a mysterious and haunted look to the painting

I noticed that the sky looks like an eye and that the road looks like it's been well worn. The foreground looks inviting while the background seems the opposite. The foreground has like an adventurous, exciting mood to it while the background seems forbidden and dangerous.

The bottom half is almost happy, like the beginning of spring. While the top is dark and gloomy, like the beginning of a storm. However, there is still a path of light through the dark.

What I notice when I look at this painting is the dead trees, dark sky and the brighter but worn path. The path is is contrasting the dead and dark area around it. The path to is worn like a lot of people have used it and the dark out side represents sadness.

This picture contrasts with itself because the road is very pretty and has lots of color and the sky is a dull grey. The sky makes it seem like a boring winter day and the road makes it seem like a warm fall day.

In this painting I notice that the trees are dead, the sky is gray and cloudy, and there are no bright colors. The foreground and background contrast each other because one has somewhat green grass and looks more alive then the dark, gloomy background. The foreground creates a feeling of happiness because of the slightly brighter colors and the background creates a mood of sadness.
