Click on the following questions to take a poll on each:
  • America is headed in a right (as in correct) and positive direction.
  • Marriage still serves its intended purpose. True love exists.
  • How do you personally feel about the effectiveness of our school system?
  • Media (journalism, advertisements, social networking, and entertainment) significantly influences thought in this society.
  • Technology has played a positive role in society.

Once people have responded to the questions, view the results.  What do you notice about people's opinions?  Do they surprise you?  What other thoughts do you have about the results?

I noticed that the majority of the votes were neutral, and the second to the majority was disagreeing. I’m not surprised, because I myself voted to disagree.I voted on the “America is headed in a right and positive direction.”

I also agreed that we are not heading in Thebes right direction as a country.

Most of us seem to vote the same in general. This didn’t really surprise me because we are all pretty similar in the ways we were raised and things we believe in. I don’t understand how some people can vote that our country is going in the right direction when it is clearly a wreck and getting worse and worse.

It looks like there is a lot of grey area and very few people think that these topics are black and white. These opinions really don’t surprise me. I think that these results represent how in our world it is very rare for things to be black and white.

A lot of people opinions surprised me. Mainly that a lot of people said technology was Bad for society. I don’t think they realize how much technology has made their lives better and safer especially with new technology in modern medicine.

My opinions were around the same as others. I do think media and technology have a large influence on society and culture and thought. People rely so heavily on it, so they base their ways of thinking on it, too. I think in situations where we have to choose, the general public with all pick the same and there will only be a few outliers.

I notice that most people agree with lots of the prompts. What got me the most though was that people still see true love as existent and that marriages are still working out fine. In our society today lots of kids move between houses due to divorce rates being pretty high. As well as the fact that a lot of people don’t get married today as often. They live with each other before to see if things will work out, which usually ends up in heart break and ruining of relationships that could have been better.

I have not been here in Salmon for long so I could be very wrong but it seems to me that people here are kind of protected from that side of the world. I would not be surprised if the divorcement rate here was 25-30%.

After this many people had some different opinions but most of us agreed and we all have related thoughts on the subjects. We see the changes that these things have done and how they changed people. Society is upgrading, are we? We are growing internally and externally but it may not be in the best way, but we have accomplished many positive things.

I noticed the majority of people voted in the middle because they were indecisive. I am not surprised that many people didn’t want to choose a side. In our society it seems like everything we do is based around what will make us the most popular.

The majority of the class’ opinion mirrored mine, but it was kind of surprising to see some of the different opinions. For example, some people, like I, feel that the education system is not effective in many ways. But, some others feel that it is extremely effective.

Most of the responses are neutral and this does not surprise me at all. . Those questions are meant to be thought provoking and deep and there are multiple very good arguments for both sides of the question. Those are some really fun questions to argue about though.
