In Chapter 1, Scout, Jem, and Dill are fascinated by the Radley house. When you were a child, was there a neighbor, family member, or place that scared you? Describe that person/place as you remember them and think about how your experience parallels the children in the novel.

My uncle Dahle. He always wanted to talk and stuff but he was missing most of his teeth and the teeth that remained were stained yellow. He also wore dirty clothes and smelt like oil. He was my uncle so I had to talk to him but I only would say hi and me my cousin agreed he was creepy.

When I was younger I would ride bikes with my sister. We would ride them up and down the streets and would ride in the neighbors driveways. Whenever we went in there driveway they would yell at us.

When I was a kid I lived in Las Vegas and overall it was very scary. There were shootings in my neighborhood so yeah I was scared of my neighborhood. They don’t really have a reason to be scared, I was scared of getting shot up walking to school.

When I was young there was a guy who lived on my street and he was definitely a little weird. He painted his house a different neon color almost every year and when my sister and I would wait in the car for my mom to take us somewhere he would walk by and look at us through the windows. It’s is similar to the novel because we were kind of scared to go by his house and everyone in the neighborhood was afraid of him.

My uncle Dave used to tell my brother and I that whatever he was drinking (different alcoholic drinks) were to keep him young which made my brother and I think he was evil. This relates to the characters because they don’t know the real story of the Radley place so they’re scaring themselves.

Getting taken away from my mom, and going through the sprinkled trauma throughout my childhood, ya know dyin’, gettin abducted and all that Jazz I was soon to be cautious of all things on the street. Nobody should fear anything though, especially not the unknown, because if you worry and worry and you say frequently that you’re scared, the panic fear will be attracted to you, just choose the karma you want drawn to you.

When I was a kid I was scared to go to the “woods” by myself. It was a big field right behind my house that we have tree houses in and it was so much fun but you would have to gross a creek to get there and I was scared to cross it by myself because my mom would always tell me to be careful. But are I got older I got use to it.

When I was little I was always scared of the neighbors house at the end of our road. Anytime we got close to this house, the mans dogs would all start barking and try to get out of the fence. I would always try to walk as far away from the house as I could trying not to make the dogs bark.
