Daily Literary Quote
“The most effective way to destroy people is to deny and obliterate their own understanding of their history.” ― George Orwell Journal Prompt What kinds of historical events do people record? What is it about the events that make them worth studying? What sort of events do we conveniently omit? Why?

People record historical events that heavily change the way we function as a society. These events can be tragic or amazing. We usually only talk about the good ones because we like to think of our past as more positive than it actually was.

People record events that they see as important or useful. They push facts about political leaders under the rug do to the fact that they have a bigger impact on us.

We record thing like when independence is earned. It’s worth studying because most of them are earned through wars. We tend to leave out the wars that we lose because we don’t want people to think our country is a failure.

The pattern is that people mostly record bug events. A good example is wars. We learn these things in school because it’s good to know history and so we can learn lessons from it.

The horrific ones because people remember bad things that happen to them better then good things so they remember not to do that again. They are worth studying because they are bad and are interesting. Mass genocide happens throughout the ages a lot because differing religions don’t get along too well. This is because they all believe in something else.

Presidents and other important leaders of countries are recorded because they had a large impact ether good or bad and changed the future of the country. They’re in charge and can choose what they see as best but, maybe lessons were learned from them so future leaders may study them to not follow in the footsteps leading to possible bad outcomes.

We record the events that have a huge impact on the world or the future. We study the events to make sure we don’t repeat it or to see what worked that we could try and keep doing. We don’t talk about the wars we lost because it will make people think differently about our country and we want to be known as powerful.
