Imagine you are an observer walking through our school for the first time. How might you organize or classify the groups that you encounter? What sort of factors might influence how you classify the people? What judgments might you make about the different groups? Why do we tend to classify and stereotype people in this manner?

I would look at how people act when they're with their friends. I would organize groups by how social they are and how many different kinds of people talk to them. I would look for how they treat everyone and if they respect each other. We stereotype people because as humans, we don't like not knowing things and we like to know what we're dealing with.

I think you have a really good point. I think how people treat others around them is very important as well.

Theres the normals and the lgbtqs. Other influences are ages. Some people are weird and stinky. We classify people mainly because we dont like them.

I think as a school the best way to group people is by age. But besides that I would classify people by sports, popularity, and smarts. People are grouped by our personal opinions and friends.

It would be good to classify people by age.

There are like only a couple groups the freaks and the normal people. There are the freaks who wear dog colors and look like Halloween threw up on them and the normal who dress normally.( jeans and tshirts) The judgments you might make are the way they talk and act. We tend to classify them because they don't act the same as us.

ok but how someone dresses doesnt tell you how they are inside. when i moved up here people were rude cause i dressed different but now a lot of people have gotten to know me and really like me and think im nice. everyone tells me that they thought i was rude or a b**** due to how i dressed and the fact that i was shy. so id think about that before you say "freak" everyone is human just cause we look different doesnt make us any less cool.

People would dress different. You would have the jocks, nerds, and the kid named garrett. The way they dress. How they talk. Why are they the way they are? People are weird and express themselves to much in public.

I would organize people by the way the dress, their demeanor, and the way they carry themselves. As well as the people they hang out with. Those wearing athletic attire, I would assume they play sports. Those that walk slumped over constantly, I think that they don't really care about school and don't really try. We classify people like this because when meeting someone new, it is up to the first 5 to 7 seconds to make a good first impression, after that people's natural instinct is to put you in a group where they think you belong.

Probably organize it to the weird kids and the normal people. How the act in the hall ways and how they interact with other people. I think we have an instinct to judge stimulation and people before meet so can have an idea on what to expect

I would look for the way people dressed. Or even if I heard the way they talked. Maybe listening to what they enjoy like hobbies or where they even go for lunch.

There are lots of different groups throughout a school. People dress different by wearing random wack clothes that isnt normal and treat eachother differently.

When trying to figure out the social groups in the school I would look at how they communicate with others, how they dress, as well as where they hang out. The people who are less social with others are probably more of an outcast while others who are very loud when they talk are more of the big social group. We make these type of stereotypes it is usually because most people who look or do a certain thing are usually the same.

theres the popular kids and most of them do sports. then there is the quiet kids. a lot of the quiet kids like different hobbies like books, video games and other stuff of that nature. then there are the mega religous people. the there is the weird kids. then the goody 2 shoes that have super good grades and go above and beyond for class work. the wanna be fake people. thats kinda just how the world goes around though. we identify people by stuff like that because that is how we remember people we fit everyone into a section in our brain in order to classify them. just like buildings there are lots of food places but we classify them by burger place or taco place thats how we remember them.
