"The ode lives upon the ideal, the epic upon the grandiose, the drama upon the real."

Journal Prompt
What comes to mind when you hear the word "epic"?  What are some things that you consider epic?  What would you consider an epic movie (besides Epic Movie).  How might these compare with a literary Epic?

Something that comes to mind when I think of epic is something very exciting or a new adventure. Some things I can consider epic are adventures and a different beginning or and ending. A movie I can consider epic would be Harry Potter because they go on different adventures throughout the whole movie and it’s literally epic because of the all magic and the different events and that can be considered literal epic.

When I hear the word epic I think of like superheros and monsters. I would consider anything that seams larger than life, or so astronomical that it couldn't possibly have happened. I would consider any superhero movie, like Batman to be an epic movie. I think that they differ in the scale of how large thay are.

When I think of epic I think of something extraordinary in a very good way. Some examples would be like riding a roller coaster and things like that. An epic movie would be the fast and the furious. Like I said before these would compare because it’s something extraordinary.

When I think epic, I think of something that’s super awesome. I think things that are unique or different in a great way are epic. There are many epic movies, but the first one that popped into my head was “The Guardian”. It’s a movie about the coast guard.

When I think of the word epic I think of something really cool. Like dragons are epic. A movie I would consider epic would be Back To The Future. This definition of epic is much different from the literary definition because you don't have to be a hero in order to be epic but in a literary sense you do.

When I hear epic I think of something done that has changed lives. Some things I consider epic are saving a life or creating something new that could change lives. A show I consider epic is Station 19.the actors in this show save lives in extraordinary measures which compares to literary epic because they both show in despite the deeds done.

When I hear the word epic I think of something adventurous and exotic to beat a great villain. I consider movies like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars an epic because they are going on a crazy adventure that you never know what is gonna happen next to beat a terrible villain. The movies I consider epics are the ones I just said as well as Harry Potter and the Hobbit. They will show how each of them compare to each other in a way with having a hero’s journey and showing the same type story just in different settings.

When I hear the word I think of a hero. I think running is pretty epic. An epic movie is The Rise of Skywalker. This movie is somewhat similar because it tells the story of a great warrior of the past although it lacks a few literary aspects of an Epic.

When I hear the word epic I think of something unique, strong, and something or someone that makes an impact. Some things I consider epic would be people helping others or those who have very unique talents. Hacksaw Ridge would be a good example of an epic. He did everything he could to help the people around him even though he barely had the strength himself.

When I hear epic I think of something exciting or sensational happening either in life, a movie or book. A movie I would consider epic would be any of Star Wars movies. Epic in literature could be a plot twist or something exciting happening or maybe even the climax, but any of these examples could happen in a movie too.

Epic is usually pretty cool things happenin’. An enormous machine being made to operate again, particularly a large locomotive. Space flight, like a shuttle launch.

Valerian and the city of a thousand worlds.

Generally involve large or seemingly impossible or hazardous endeavors, usually punctuated by a small band of dedicated characters.

When I think of the word epic the first thought that comes to mind is a basketball play between Kobe and Barnes. When Barnes fake throws the ball in Kobe’s face and Kobe doesn’t flinch or move. Other things I would consider epic, are museums or architecture. An epic movie is the Avengers: Infinity War. They are all literary epic because they’re all deeds and adventures of heroic or legendary figures.
