Daily Literary Quote
"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
                                                                        -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Journal Prompt
Explain the above quote.  Why are "sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity" so dangerous? If Dr. King were alive today, what do you think he would say about the state of racism and human rights in the United States?

It’s because we mistreated people. It’s dangerous because people act like the have all the power. but they don’t and don’t treat people equal.

they are dangerous because people like that are the kind of people who don’t see any wrong in any of their actions. they also think that everything they do is right because their minds are set in the fact that they are right.

People being stupid and blind to problems only allows them to grow. Stupidity is also the source of many problems. He would probably be happy with how far things have come.

Because it makes people blind to the real problems this society faces. Even though human rights and racism has made huge steps towards equality, there is still a huge hill to climb to eliminate it. Mr. King would talk about how the only way we can truly become a great country is to come together rather then still trying to further divide each other.

People like this have no idea how their actions can hurt people and don’t usually make the right decisions when it comes to having to make one. Much like people in this school.

The reason for ignorance and stupidity being so dangerous is because some people don’t think through the true outcomes of some decisions. I believe that racism would stay the same human rights would be a struggle like it is now.

If people are just stupid they won’t care about who or what gets affected in their path. MLK would be disappointing on how the change hasn’t been as drastic as he would’ve hoped.

People who are blind to the stupidity and their stupid actions do not know they are wrong. They are dangerous because they are hard to stop. Dr. King would still be disappointed because of what is still happening but happy because those things have improved.

They are dangerous because being ignorant or having conscientious stupidity results in mistakes and hurting people in other ways we might not think is hurting them. I don’t think he would prove because it has gotten a bit out of hand and most of everyone does it or says something offensive towards it.

The quote above is talking about how dangerous intending good but probably not and intentionally making poor decisions are very dangerous things. They’re both dangerous because of what effects they can have on people. Like trying to give other groups more rights but unintentionally you become enslaved to the ones you try to free by giving them a passes that you yourself don’t have. This isn’t so for all groups, but there are very few people like this. The opposite of this can also occur and is more common. With this in mind, I would think MLK would say, “When I said that I had a dream of equal rights, I meant that to be for EVERYBODY to follow the same laws of freedom America stands for.”
