Weekly Literary Quote
WAR IS PEACE FREEDOM IS SLAVERY IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH
Explain these seemingly-contradictory statements in your own words. Do they make sense? Why or why not? Who might benefit from using slogans such as these? These are examples of "doublethink," which the book defines as "the power of holding two contradictory beliefs in one's mind simultaneously, and accepting both of them." What might be some examples of people using doublethink in our world? Explain.

After war there is peace but it's never permanent. I think that freedom is slavery doesn't make sense, because if you have freedoms you can't be a slave for someone or thing, When it says ignorance is strength it means that ignorance is bliss. I think that the government would benefit from using these slogans the most because they can be controlling statements.

I liked your example of a double think. People often don't really understand what they are supporting.

“ignorance is strength, it means that ignorance is bliss.” Was my favorite part! Your examples you used are very strong to this topic. Good job!

war is peace because war can sometimes bring peace to a place. freedom is slavery because we are constantly told how free we are, but we’re all living for someone else. you are free to do whatever you want but most of the time what you’re doing is to impress someone making you a slave to your mind and the other person. ignorance is strength to me means that sometimes it’s good to not know what’s going on, in some cases it can save your mind. this goes especially to younger children who just want to be happy all the time, they don’t know the real world problems yet and that is their biggest strength because that saves them from so much pain.

War is peace because war can bring peace in certain ways. And it can settle out others differences. Freedoms is slavery is that we are always under someone’s control even though we get told we are free but we will always be under someone and following their rules. And ignorance is strength is that sometimes we don’t know other people’s issues and think they are just being ignorant even though they are actually just being strong.

War can bring peace in many different ways. Freedom is slavery because our free choices could led to loss of freedom. Ignorance is strength is when the lack of care gives frees you from the worries and stresses. To me these statements are most likely to happen in a movie or show. When it comes to real life, I have never seen these statements in action.

War makes peace in your own country and other country’s. Freedom is slavery because we may use our freedoms so much it may lead us to slavery. Ignorance is strength because we have less worries and stress in life.

War is full of death and destruction witch make people desire peace. The aftermath makes people not what war. I don't completely understand the how freedom is slavery. The only thing about that that I feel could be similar is how one of my teacher taught self-discipline. He said that if you can't control yourself something or someone else will. Ignorance is Strength because sometimes the lack of knowledge can protect you.

All three are symbolic because they cancel eachother out even though make a positive statement. War is peace because we have to have the madness before the silence. Freedoms is slavery is because we have all of these choices that could lead us to being made to feel like you are slaving away yourself. Ignorance is strength because you can have more power by putting other people down and that is how you can get the top.

I think that the author is saying that the government uses war to try and make peace. Freedom is slavery because are we ever really free we are slaves of the government to make them money. Ignorance is strength it is referring if you do not acknowledge problems then you wont have to worry about them. I think that a group of power would be the only thing to benefit from using these. An example of of a double think in today's society are a truthful lie that the media tells us that is also known as fake news.

I believe that war is peace because all through out time there has always been war, and people have just became used to it. Freedom is slavery because even though we believe ourselves to be free many of us still feel trapped like slaves in our everyday lives. I dont really understand the ignorance is strength one. But the first two make sense to me the last one does not. I believe the government will benifit.

These slogans are weirdly true to me, I've seen a lot of the comments saying they don't apply in today's world; I don't see it that way. "WAR IS PEACE", in today's world this slogan could mean that we have war to attain peace. "FREEDOM IS SLAVERY", this slogan is a little complicated but can be seen as the laws that keep the world under control. Some don't like these laws and see them as repressive but they are there so we can keep a peaceful freedom. "IGNORANCE IS STRENGTH", ignorance can be helpful to people, it keeps them out of harms way.

War is peace means to me that even with war it can bring peace. Freedom is slavery means to me that even though we are free we still have to abide by someone else's rules whether it be the law or something else. Ignorance is strength to me means that just because your ignorant your still aware of what's going on but it can make you have strength whether it's a less lack of fear or you feel like you can do anything even if what's going on is bad. This does make sense in a way because even though they contradict each other to some point they both tie together. I think anyone can benefit from these depending on how they look at it.

War is peace means that in order to fix a problem you are going to fight it out to finally get the peace that we all deserve. Freedom is slavery means that even when you feel like you can be yourself and do whatever you want reality sets in and you need to abide with every other person's set of rules so you can fit in. Ignorance is strength is a way to say in order to truly fix a problem you need to be stubborn enough to fix the problem in you own way.

I feel like war isn’t peace but it might cause peace because sometimes you need to show what the person is dealing with to make them stop. I’ll I’mi feel like the world can benefit from it. I say it because everyone goes straight to war if there is a disagreements. But one time another nation is gonna be stronger than they appear and a world war is going to happen.

War is peace because they try to fight for peace and we have always been at war to settle our differences. Ignorance is bliss is if you don’t know about something then you probably shouldn’t worry about it. Freedom is slavery is that we are free to do a lot but we also aren’t free and it keeps us from doing what we want at times.

The first one doesn't make sense entirely war is definitely not peace, but war might bring peace if the side fighting for peace wins. The second one makes zero sense to me freedom is not slavery at all. The third one makes sense to me. If someone is so ignorant about something they have a strength about it. I can't think of anyone that would benefit from using slogans like this.
