“All the world’s a stage,
And all the men and women merely players.”

Journal Prompt
What are some different “roles” you play in your life?  Why do we “act” differently around different people and in different situations?

We act different because different people have higher expectations out of us than others.

I like that statement, and I agree people do think higher of us than some so we act differently around them.

We act different around different people because your grandma doesn’t like the way you talk when your around the boys so you act and talk differs around her.

Everyone has a different personality. Sometimes you act weird with you friends and when you’re around family you might act more mature.

Some of the different roles I play include ranch hand for work, athlete for sports, and student for school. We act differently around certain people because of our relationship with said person and their personalities.

Humans are people pleasers. We act different around certain people hoping to reach their expectations and hope they like us. I don’t really feel like a play different roles but I am the “drunk” aunt in the friend group.

I don’t really play any roles I act the same around everyone. Most the time people are just trying to seem cooler to other groups trying to fit in. My friends say I am the “drunk uncle” because of my tendencies to make situations more fun.

I play the role of a friend at school and the roles of a daughter and sister at home. I think we all play different roles around different people or situations because it’s how we feel in the moment how we have best learned to adapt in life.

Some roles one may play is a friend or a companion. We act differently based on what people are going through or have dealt with. That differs with every person.

I act differently around my parents than I do with my friends. People expect different things and especially in the professional fields we’re required to act more sophisticated. We do this because the way people perceive us is important to our relationship with them.

I have many rolls I play in life. A musician, an artist of many things, the odd one of many, and on the inside a hero and villain. These are only some. For there are many more that no one in Salmon has yet to see for many reasons.

This is also why we tend to act differently around different people and situation. There are different people we are more comfortable with than others. Or we try to impress someone or act similar to them in order to fit in (something I refuse to do and be different to fit in as an example).

Student, athlete. The reason we act differently around other people is to fit in with what is common but it is not good to do this.
