Daily Literary Quote
“In Flanders Fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.”

Is war necessary?  Why or why not?

George Carlin once said that “fighting for peace is like screwing for virginity”
There are certain times when fighting is absolutely necessary tho. If your country is going to be taken over by some “radical” group then yes you would definitely fight

It is necessary in some circumstances. The death of many who served our country is saddening but if they didn’t protect our country then who knows what today might look like.

War definitely shapes what we are. We would have very different views and ethics if we hadn’t have fought.

Yes, I think that war is necessary because in war we can find peace. We have had war for a long time and I don’t think that will change.

I think that war is a necessity, or at least inevitable. Fighting over land, rights and ideals are what people do, no one is going to agree on everything.

I think that war is necessary to a certain extent. If we didn’t have wars, we would be arguing with the other countries and we wouldn’t really be able to solve any conflicts. Also, if we were to be the only country without war, we would constantly be targeted as an easy place to do harm to.

It’s a cruel reality. If you can’t fight, people will take advantage of it.

You’re correct, No one wants to be viewed as weak. We also have wars that aren’t guns and blood.

In terms of necessity, the only time where it can be necessary entirely is when it’s used in the plot of a book. In real life, I don’t think it’s needed because it usually wastes resources and lives. However, fighting is human nature, making it unavoidable in some cases. It can be needed as a last resort or if one side can’t be convinced through words. It’s complicated as a whole.

I think war is necessary because people can’t communicate and sometimes that is the only way to resolve a problem. If people could fix things by communicating and negotiating, then things would be solved way before it got to the point of war.

I feel like it depends on the situation. We shouldn’t start a war but if another country starts the war with us then yes. But we should try to avoid it as much as possible because war ruins the economy and our country as well as others. Also all of the deaths war causes.

The decision to initiate war is very situational, which I feel makes it that much harder to decide when it is necessary.

Well.....it really depends on the context and position you are viewing it from. As far as education and evolution go, yes, we really do need it. Also war has, as backward as it seems, united the world.

In a perfect world it wouldn’t be. However in the world we live in it is. There are a lot of bad people who get into power and try to control others. An example would be Hitler. War in needed to fight back agains these people.

In my opinion, war is inevitable. However, I don't believe that it is necessary. War is viewed as the easiest option when men cannot agree. I don't feel that there is any situation that we couldn't talk through and compromise, but men are too impatient.
