What comes to mind when you hear the word Victorian? What are some things we still describe as being Victorian? Given that, what might some characteristics of the era be?

I think of a combination of classy appearances, dresses or suites, and old literature pieces like poetry. The characteristics would be a type of order, neat, sophisticated and a bit of negativity towards anything different from that style.

When I think of Victorian I think of ladies in the dresses with the corsets, and tea in little fancy cups, and tall churches with the pointy towers.

I didn’t think of the churches but it makes sense.

Royalty. Being well known. Some characteristics would probably be the way they dressed and how they lived. It’s changed with time but there’s still people who think they are above everyone else.

Some things I think of are royalty and poetry. They were pretty sophisticated and liked to follow one specific way of life. They were kind of bitter if their ways and beliefs didn’t get followed.

Sophistication seems to have been a priority during this time. Why do you think that is?

I think of big dresses, formal wear, the different social expectations. They were a lot more formal.
