Daily Literary Quote
“Profit is sweet, even if it comes from deception.”
                                              -Sophocles

Journal Prompt
At the end of Act I, Hamlet decides to “put on an antic disposition” and act “crazy” in hopes that he will garner information corroborating the ghost’s information.  Have you ever used deception to get something you wanted?  When do you think it is acceptable to do so?  Explain.

Yeah I deceive people all the time. Mostly only for fun but if I really need something then you probably will be deceived.

Yes we all use deception to get what we want. No, but it’s not like we are going to stop.

There will always be a con artist somewhere out there to deceive us.

No, I really try not to lie. It’s a waste of breath and can get you into trouble. It’s not worth it.

You saying that you try not to lie is probably the biggest lie you’ve ever said

I’ve used deception a couple of times to get what I want. I don’t think it should really be used at all except for special circumstances. Deception to me is lying and if that lie is discovered it could ruin relationships.

I’ve never really had to deceive anyone to get what I want, I’m a very open and upfront person so if I want something I’ll just say it. I don’t think it’s ever acceptable to deceive others to get what you want. I don’t understand what’s so hard about being open and honest.

I feel like being deceptive backfires a lot. Just be upfront.

Exactly. Hamelot shows that deception is leading to disasters.

I don’t need to deceive people for stuff I want. If I ant something then I will go and buy it.

We have all used deception to get what we want. It’s generally not acceptable but we won’t stop doing it.

I can’t remember if I ever used deception to get something. It can be used if someone is hiding information and are hesitant to tell them. Because if they believe someone is hiding something from them, they’ll need to find ways to get it.

Yeah I have used disposition to get some things that I want. And it depends where you use it and for what kind use.

We have all used deception at some point in tome to get what we want. I have. It isn’t necessarily acceptable but we aren’t going to stop.

I don’t recall a time I ever did this. Usually if I want something I’ll just say it. I don’t believe this is an acceptable way to get what you want, being deceptive can oftentimes backfire on you.

Same. I’ll either get it myself or say that I want it and if I don’t get it I don’t make a big deal out of it.

I can’t really recall a time I’ve used deception o get what I wanted. I’ll usually get what I want myself. Personally I do not think it is acceptable to use deception to get something you want. My little sister uses it all the time and personally I do not think it is fair that she gets her way for everything and anything.

I have not used deception to get what I want. I don’t think it’s acceptable to use deception. I don’t like it when people do it. My sister has used it before and I was mad that she got what she wanted.
