I feel like they have the right to investigate your past life to an extent. Mostly to protect other workers and customers from potential danger. It wouldn’t be fair if an employer hired a registered criminal if they are putting others in harms way.

I feel like the only thing they should be able to check is your personal record. I don’t think their is a need for them to know your whole life.

It really depends. I think it’s fine if they know some of your past to know how you will act and if you are trustworthy. But there’s a point where they probably should stop. It’s just a way for people to know who you are, but at the same time we shouldn’t judge people on their past.

I think that employers and schools should be able too investigate because they should know who is working for them or if they are worth taking the time to teach them.

Knowing their skills and what they’re capable of doing is a big one too.

Yes, qualification is very much determined by your background.

I think they have some right to make sure you’re not crazy and gonna kill people but I don’t think that should dig up everything from your past. I think people should be looked into within reason and only the important things should be looked at, not every small detail.

It depends what kind of situation. I think it goes as far as to find anything that is potential threatening. But it also counts on the times spent afterwards recovering and how much change you went through in order to monitor correctly.

I agree, there are definitely certain things that employers must know about their employees, but there is also a line that needs to be drawn when it has gone too far.

It depends on the job. If you are in customer service then they should investigate your background or if you drive a car/truck but if you do manual labor they shouldn’t dig too far back

I think there is some right. If you have a history of stealing money then I wouldn’t hire you as a cashier. But I also believe that the recent past should be used to judge a person. The far far past isn’t to reliable as people could change for the better.

They can investigate your professional history as much as they want. They need to hire qualified people who are willing to work rather than hire a man with an extensive criminal record and no job history.

I think that employers have the right to investigate into our personal lives only as much as actually pertains to the job. For example, I think things like drug abuse or abuse charges are necessary to the safety of both the workers and customers, so those are ok things to look into

They should have the ability to research your past to an extent to ensure the safety of their employees and customers. They also could look at your social media to see what kind of personality you have.

I feel like searching ones social media is too far. Your twitter post and snap stories usually don’t correlate on how your work ethic is.

I feel that they have the right to do legal background checks for criminal activity and they should have the right to check into your past work/school/other history pertaining to the said organization, but they should not have the right to check into any other aspect of your personal life or background. Checking into anything more is an unnecessary invasion of privacy that holds no relevancy to the job at hand.

Probably depends on the job you are applying. Example if it’s like government job, I would think they have the right to investigate, but school no.
