Journal Prompt
What makes a fairy tale a fairy tale? What are the characteristics of the genre? Are they still relevant today?

I feel like a fairy tale something that we can believe in but not really have happen. Some characteristics would be happy ending, fictional characters, and talking animals. They are still very relevant today.

I think fairy tales are when aspects of the story are unrealistic. Some things in most fairy tales are mythical creatures, princesses, and princes etc. I think they are as relevant as we make them. There are things to be learned from them but most of us don’t love stories that are that unrealistic.

Though to be fair, you don’t catch many people pulling out history books for their class projects

Maybe you should. Some of your responses are less than accurate.

If I do recall the things I learned in history class I would have to say that it was all far from being a fairy tale. Correct me if I am wrong but my teacher never once taught me about Cinderella or Snow White, because it is irrelevant to actual history. Aimee not once addressed learning about this in a project or at school, she was refrerring to learning life lessons and passed down bedtime stories.

Fairy tales are stories that typically include mythical creatures and have a happy ending of some sort. The focus is usually the happy ending and doesn’t always have any real moral behind it

Fairy tales can still have a moral lesson of sorts.

I never really looked at them as having no true moral.

Fairy tales have characteristics of magic powers, various creatures, and a moral theme. They are still relevant because their themes of magic and moral lessons can be learned from very young or even as an adult.

I agree, the moral lesson is a good reason they’re still relevant.

Usually fairy tales are a short story with a moral theme or lesson that is repeated throughout time. Fairy tales also contain folkloric characters such as goblins, dwarves, dragons, etc. I do believe that the lessons many fairy tales contain are relevant to many in today’s age.

A fairy tale is something that can’t happen in real life. With characters that folklore, and have far fetched sequence of events.

I think that mythical creatures or fun stories make a fairy tale what it is. Characteristics of a fairy tale are romance, since there usually is one, and a lesson of some sort. I think they’re still relevant as we enjoy them.

A fairy tale is a story that brings hope and light into our lives. It’s usually full of magic and the main character has to overcome seemingly impossible odds. The main purpose is to teach different morals. They are definitely relevant today. I think people need fairytales in their lives to show them that everything is possible with a little help and determination.

There are many things that can make a fairy tale some characteristics are princesses, a witch some talking animals and a happy ending. I think they will always be relevant it just depends on the audience.

Fairy tales are make believe stories that cannot be true in real life. These stories typically consist of magic, evil, and love. Though these stories are still around today I don’t believe that they have as much of an impact on peoples lives like the once did, making them quite irrelevant.
