Journal Prompt
What kinds of historical events do people record? What is it about the events that make them worth studying? What sort of events do we conveniently omit? Why?

People record anything that they think is important or worth remembering. Most of the events we study are so that we don’t repeat the same mistakes in the future. We omit things that we are ashamed of or that make us look bad because we don’t want to remember those things.

People record historical events that they think will have a lasting effect of future genertions or are a big deal.

By big deal, do you mean something worth learning so that it’s not repeated?

People usually record the bad stuff. When we survive the bad stuff we will take it as a lesson and naturally we wish to warn friends and family. Some good things come through though.

We tend to study the changes in our society more than anything else. We try to omit more of the negative or the things that people want to stay hidden.

Change is important to recognize.

People record the history of wars, sciences, and politics. These events are worth studying because we can learn from past mistakes. We omit events like the holocaust.

Who omits the holocaust? Pretty sure it’s too big an event to just skip over

The holocaust is a good example of something we don’t like to talk about.

People record historical events that either change the course of a country or the world, or to highlight events that are important to a certain group. They’re worth studying because they are meant to teach us lessons, or interesting enough to tell as a story. People tend to omit events that give credit to other groups of people and their accomplishments or ones that highlights mistakes of one group. It’s a way to discredit someone or hide something even more important.

We record things like wars, how we discovered land, new inventions, family lines, etc. It shows us where we came from and how the world around us was built. We try not to mention most of the mistakes we make or things that are embarrassing.

I think it’s important to tell the mistakes though, since we can learn from them.

People record just about all the historical events. I think war is one we record quite a lot. I believe we study them because we can learn tatics from them. I think we leave out the bad things that a person we look up to, like a royal person or leader. We leave these things out because we want to be able to look up to them.

Something that people record a lot is war. They tend to record stuff like this because it captivates people’s attention easily. When we record things, we have the tendency to omit mistakes and faults because it makes us look bad.

People record important events like war, new royalty, or new places discovered. Then we can study and learn from these events.
