Senior Year has been pretty difficult and busy for many students. One thing that’s has been harder than the rest of senior year is senior project and finding ways to manage time, stress and other things. What has been the hardest part of your senior year and what techniques are you using to help with the stress?

For me, the hardest part of this year has been trying to juggle schoolwork while also completing college applications and scholarships. Trying to find the time, but mostly the motivation for working on these things has been very difficult, especially since I need to write essays for every scholarship application. I think this has also been hard because it means I need to be so focused on my future while I'm also trying hard to live in the moment and enjoy my last year in high school.

I totally understand. The expectations have become overwhelming when it comes to College. It can be so hard to manage both the future and the present but I just want you to know you are not in it alone. I/we, feel you.

I understand this as well because my parents have helped me to recognize that shooting for the stars is wonderful and should be done, but there also needs to be time and lots of effort invested into preparing backup plans and securing money for college. I have applied to a lot of colleges, and I sincerely hope that I will be accepted to one. I also hope that I will qualify for enough money to completely cover me, but see that it is responsible to apply for scholarships and other programs as well.

I agree with you, I am also struggling with applying to scholarships and collages on top of everything else.

I also feel like this. I have not been able to work on any of my scholarship and am starting to worry that I won't be able to actually afford colledge.

For me, the constant drudgery of catching up on school work was probably the worst for me. I bet there were and are other things but this is what comes to mind. I would work hard to get one thing done and then have to cycle back around to catch up on everything else I fell behind in while working on the one thing. This caused me to have a lot of late work nights, a lot of stress, and an overwhelming feeling of exhaustion. I dealt with it by prioritizing the most needed work first and saving the others for later. I also had to use more free-time during the day to work on things instead of late at night. Both of these helped me to have a smaller work load and less stress. I also had to understand that taking a break was alright to clear my head up again to continue working. I’m just really glad that this semester is over and everything turned out okay.

I relate to your feeling of stress when working on assignments. It seems that once you catch up in everything, a new one is introduced. I know that there's also different categories of activities. A lot of students balance school, work, extracurriculars, taking care of their family, sports, and navigating sociality all at the same time.

I have the same experience with the constant cycle of work. Things pile up because I am too busy working on another assignment, however, I have not really found a great way to help with this and stop the cycle.

Every year things get harder and harder but the one thing that has been a challenge the most this year is the balance of everything. The balance to excel at our last year, the balance of college necessities, and the balance of school work. We all have had to move things around on our plate that we aren't really prepared for. Especially with the last few months being displayed for us; has become insanely stressful. Some ways that I have found to cope with the stress is to go outside and take a breath of fresh air. The cool breeze helps calm my senses to come to center.

I agree that there are many things we weren't prepared for. I really thought I knew what was in store for me before beginning senior year, because lots of people told me what it was like, but there are still a lot more stress and things that I was definitely not prepared for.

Balancing senior year has definitely been difficult. It’s been hard to adjust to the new stress of the last year of high school, when all you want to do is have fun and make memories. I think that after senior project, we will have one less thing to worry about and be able to actually enjoy our last year of high school.

I totally understand the balancing points of your response. I talked about that as well. It is super hard to have so much going and having to fall behind in other things to excel in another. It is definitely rough.

The hardest part for me has probably been the social aspect. I am grateful for the friends that I have and understand that people grow and change, but I feel like this is a safe space to share that I feel like I have been kicked to the curb by a few of my friends. I think that something people in every grade need to work on is watching out for others and making sure that they feel included and appreciated. Senior year is the time to get close with people you never have been with before. It is also completely understandable that sometimes people have no idea how their actions are affecting others, and it is true that we are focused on our own lives and most people wouldn't want to hurt anyone had they known. I just think that now is a good time for things to change and for all of us to recognize that these decisions and connections will help shape the course of all of our individual lives. I think that people should take risks, have fun, and most of all, be kind. Everyone struggles with something that you have no idea about, and I know that this sounds cliche, but act toward others with pure and wholesome intentions.

Emylee, this comment is so valid. If everyone just treated people like they were the actual potentially fragile human beings that we really are, so much pain and confusion could be avoided. There is the saying, treat every day like it’s your last. The idea being that that way you will live a more quality life. But I think even more important is the variation that Nicolas shared with me: treat everyone else like it’s their last day alive. You never know what pains they are suffering. Whether it be because of overwhelming depression or over circumstances, it truly could be their last. We all NEED to be more mindful of the feelings of others. No one is perfect, so we all have room to improve. I’ve felt this need personally this year. A need for myself to improve, and a need for those around me to.

Senior year has probably been the most difficult and stressful year of high school. Senior project definitely is one of the reasons for my stress but there are other things that add up to it being my hardest year. Applying to college and scholarships have been the other stress components on my ever growing to-do list. It is hard for me to find the time or the motivation really, to sit down and apply for scholarships. I have also been putting off planning for my graduation trip and looking for a new car until senior project presentations are over with, hoping to lower my stress. Often times after a stressful week, I will hangout with friends and spend time with my dogs to help myself feel better for the next week.

I agree, every previous senior lied when they said "Senior year is super easy and you don't got to sweat it".

The hardest part has been the ‘maturing’ process. People treat you differently when they expect you to be more mature. Not always in a good way. Sometimes the increased freedom and responsibility is nice, but in other ways, the forwardness expected of a Senior is demanding. Somehow we are supposed to know everything we want to do in our lives, and, since I don’t, that is part of why I feel like I’m under pressure. That’s just a small part of it. There is is myriad of social messiness that probably is even harder than the expectation placed on us, but I don’t have the words to adequately express that right now.

That is so understandable. Like I don’t know what I want to eat for lunch let alone what career path I want to pursue. This expectation placed on people is really not how it should be.

I have found it hard to balance senior project along with the rest of my classes. Most of the time feeling the need to prioritize senior project because it can really determine if I graduate or not, which then leads to my other grades dropping and me having to find the time outside of sports and everything else to get them done.
