As you are all aware, next week some seniors are traveling to Washington DC. In March, much of the music department is taking a trip to New York, New York. The Travel Club is planning a trip to Europe. This is just some of the travel bug that has taken our students here at Salmon High School. This summer I visited the golden state: California. I can now say that, as a 17 year old High School Senior, I have traveled from coast to coast. I believe that traveling and seeing the world is important for any individual. It creates a love for our earth, and a love for the people that live in different parts of the world. Traveling creates more interesting and experienced individuals. In the article "Why Traveling Makes You Happy" by Lilly Herbert she says, "Philosopher and professor A.C. Grayling feels that traveling is the key to expanding the mind and spirit. He believes we educate ourselves by traveling and exposing ourselves to new ideas and people" Traveling helps us to rewire our brains and take time to reset.

If there was one place that you could travel to, where would it be and why? Do you think traveling is beneficial and why or why not?

Personally, I’m not a big fan of traveling. I too, have seen both sides of the country, as well as been out of the country. The only reason for this is because my Mom loves traveling and makes us all go with her. Otherwise, we would never leave. I like Idaho. People from other states pay big money to come here for rafting trips or guided hunting trips. I live here for free every day. Why would I want to leave? Traveling was enough of a headache 5 years ago, let alone now with all of the dreadful COVID-19 regiments. Besides our boys road trip post-graduation, and my mission, I hope to do little traveling in the future. Until I have a wife that makes me travel I guess.

You’re definitely correct that COVID has ruined lots of the fun and relaxation in traveling or taking a vacation. I find it interesting that you would choose not to travel. I agree that Salmon is a cool place but I definitely enjoy spending some time elsewhere every now and then. I do have to say it always feels nice to drive back into town and see home.

Covid is definitely a big cause of a lot of problems. I think traveling can be hard in general.

I think it is so cool that your mission allows you to travel somewhere and live there. It is crazy the amount of people that come to Salmon as a vacation, etc. Once I look at it from their perspective, Salmon is a unique community with gorgeous features.

Traveling can be stressful, especially flying. It sometimes seems crazy when my parents want to be to an airport two hours before a flight but sometimes it pays off.

I like it here too. I don't find much need to travel. It's not like I go out side much anyway haha

If I could choose anywhere to travel to right now, I would go to Alaska. I was born there and I have a passion for the beautiful scenery. There is also so much to do in Alaska as far as fishing, hunting, exploring, and gold prospecting goes. Also an unpopular opinion of mine about traveling; I would rather drive than fly. Personally, driving allows me to really soak up the views and I like being able to stop at miscellaneous places to check things out. Lastly, I consider traveling to be beneficial to one’s mental clarity and important for stress relieving. When I’m out on the road and heading somewhere, the last thing on my mind is all of the things I have to get done. I really like this aspect of traveling.

I like traveling because of the parallels it has with life; we are all on our own journeys with special circumstances, and though some of us may be venturing to a shared destination, the route looks different for all of us. I love traveling because Salmon is isolated, which makes for long rides that allow for quality conversation and interaction.

I am one of the lucky people that gets to go to D.C. this week and I am very excited! I have always wanted to go to D.C. However, it is not the one place I would want to travel to. I have always wanted to go to Italy or Greece. Or just Europe in general. I really enjoy traveling and would love to go as many places as possible.

I hope Washington D.C is a blast for you all! I agree it would be cool to visit, but it is not one of my top places to go. Additionally, I definitely want to travel to any part of Europe in the future. There is so much interesting history about that location.

I think Covid 19 has made us all appreciate traveling because we have been cooped up at home. I admire the thought behind your post and think it is cool you have been able to travel so much. I look forward to traveling in the near future with the music department, the boys, and for an LDS mission. I would like to visit Africa at some point to see how poverty stricken villages operate. I want to learn what means of assistance are of maximum benefit to their lifestyles. I too have visited both coasts of the US. It is fun to see the variations in geography which God created, as well as the differences in culture which go along with that. The modern technology we have for traveling is tremendous. I think travel is important because living in one place can get boring.

If I could visit anywhere, I would want to go somewhere warm. I absolutely love the heat and so I would be totally fine spending weeks in the sun. I think that it would be super fun to go to Mexico. I love Mexican food and it is almost always warm there. I would definitely take advantage of the sun and the beach. I understand why a lot of the elderly people go down south during most of the winter months. I think that traveling is a great way to spend your time and money. You have the opportunity to become more cultured and to experience different ways of living. You also have the opportunity to see things you have never seen before and do things you have never done before. I hope that during my lifetime I have the chance to travel a lot.

If I had the ability to travel anywhere, I would struggle to come up with one exact answer. Traveling is something I would love to do in my future. A place that I would like to go that is at the top of my list is Austria. From all the photos and videos I have seen, it is beautiful. I have never seen anything like it. My mother had the opportunity to be an exchange student there when she was around our age, so going there would be really cool! If you haven’t seen any pictures of it, I definitely recommend searching some!

That’s cool that your Mom was a foreign exchange student, I didn’t know that. I don’t think I would like doing that, myself. It’s weird enough being a new student in a normal school.

There are many places I would like to travel and see but the place that stands out to me is Italy. It has a deep history and still has many architectural wonders from cities like Venice to the coliseum. Plus the food is amazing and the language is interesting because it seems like a great language to use when angry. I’d love to see the countryside of Italy also because it looks amazing with the rolling hills and it touches the Mediterranean.

I recall my first time traveling outside of the United Stated was when my family and I vacationed in the Dominican Republic. Rather than staying on a resort, we stayed in a condominium that was within a mile of the culture-rich town we were visiting. We met tons of locals, most of which only spoke Spanish, and we were able to witness some of the highs and lows of this small island. There was a lot of poverty, yet the people were all genuinely happy, more so than anyone I had ever seen before. This experience greatly impacted me, making me analyze my own life and outlook on it. I have way more belongings, safety, and resources than any of the people there had, yet I found myself being negative; wishing for the things that I do not have, rather than being grateful for all that I do have. I think this realization is one that many first-world citizens should experience at some point in their lives, and traveling is a great way to do so. If I could travel anywhere, I would go back to that small town in the DR and try to help the locals financially, since many of them do not have a cent to their names.

If I could travel anywhere I would want to go to Germany. My family has some friends in Germany that have a plane and said they would take us around Europe. They would also take us to Spain to scuba dive. We would have went last summer but because of Covid we couldn’t. We are going to have to postpone the trip till after my mission now unfortunately.

I absolutely believe that traveling is beneficial to humans. A time that comes to mind for me was when I went on a cruise, and one of our stops was the island of Roatan, Honduras. Seeing Honduras and the culture they had to offer was super neat. It opened my eyes to how blessed we are in America to live the privileged lives that many Americans do. If I could go anywhere right now, it would probably be a country similar to Honduras, so I could see how others live and learn about different cultures.

I don't care much for places or doing things, I care more about the people I am doing it with. Traveling can be a good experience I think but I do not particularly want to travel anywhere. Going to somewhere that didn't have sagebrush would be nice though. I have never been too much of a fan of art but I know that there are some cool museums and art shows out there.

During my lifetime I’ve been very blessed to be able to travel to lots of different places. I believe the travel is one of the most beneficial things that especially young people can do before going out into the world by themselves. I say this because when traveling to other countries in other towns and places we experience different types of cultures religion, laws and government. We also learned how to fend for ourselves and how to problem solve since we are far from home most of the time when traveling. This last November I was fortunate to travel to Costa Rica to visit my grandmother. Costa Rica is one of my favorite places to visit however it can be very overwhelming because they have a different currency, a different language, a different climate, and a different style of government. A place that I would love to travel to would be Bora Bora because of the beautiful water surrounding it.

If I could go anywhere, it would be Paris. I am enamored by the Eiffel Tower and the Louvre. I am also extremely passionate about cooking and baking. What better place to go and study that then somewhere who has mastered that art? I think traveling is extremely beneficial. It would be really hard for me not to go see other places. Imagine how sheltered we would be. I love seeing new places and intend to keep doing so the rest of my life.
