'Tis now the very witching time of night,
When churchyards yawn and hell itself breathes out
Contagion to this world.
                                           -William Shakespeare, Hamlet

Write about your favorite creepy creature or scary movie. What makes them so frightening?  Why are people fascinated by the horrific and macabre?

Also, what is your favorite Halloween memory or tradition?

I don’t really have a favorite scary movie because I hate them so much. For some people they love to watch them for the thrill, but they just flat out scare me to death. Whenever I do watch them, I have to watch a Disney movie afterwards to try to forget all the scary things. I also feel that some people like to watch them because they know it isn’t real. They can be scared to death, but still walk out of the theater knowing that it was all made up. My favorite Halloween tradition was going trick or treating around my grandparents house and all of their neighbors because they would load us up with candy.

My brother does the same thing. After watching a particularly spooky film, he'll put on a couple episodes of My Little Pony, which for a freshman in highschool, I think is quite hilarious.

Did you ever watch Frankenweenie or The Nightmare Before Christmas? They aren’t very scary but when I was little they scared me more than anything.

I also do not like horror movies but I love the halloween movies that don’t have much of a horror aspect! I highly recommend checking out some of the halloween cartoons this halloween!

I don't really watch horror movies, and when I do, I always think the villains are D-tier. But if I had to choose, it would have to be Death from Final Destination, because he is so calculating and I love the concept of the movie in general. Every Halloween before this year, my family has dressed up as a group for the merchant trick or treating. One year we were Scooby Doo characters, another Plants vs Zombies. We aren't able to do it this year because my mother and I will be gone for a college tour.

That is really cool that your family does a group dress up every year. I haven’t heard of that movie, but it sounds really cool.

I love the Final Destination movies! My cousin and I binge watched them all last year around this time.

I have been watching scary movies since I was very young. My dad loves them so we used to watch them while my mom was away. Although I have watched dozens of these movies, my favorite horror flicks are always the ones based on true events. I recently got into the Dahmer series on Netflix. I think it was so popular because truth is often stranger than fiction. I love scary movies but my favorite Halloween tradition would have to be watching the cringe worthy Disney Halloween movies like Halloweentown and Girls vs Monster. Nothing beats candy corn and laughing at the awful acting in these movies.

I love watching the funny Disney halloween movies as well! I feel like they always come up with crazy movies to play during halloween! I also think that Halloween is everyone’s excuse to eat a lot of candy! I personally love halloween candy.

True stories do make the films creepier, because usually you can wave off the tale as fiction. But when it's a true story, you can't really do that.

I personally am not a fan of scary movies however, The Nightmare Before Christmas is one of my favorite movies to watch during halloween. I love the spooky halloween aspect but also the fun cartoon parts as well. I think people enjoy horror movies because of the thrill and sudden excitement. Every time I have watched a horror movie, I am always anticipating the jump scare which keeps me paying very close attention throughout the whole movie. My favorite halloween tradition with my family is carving pumpkins. I love how messy it is and all the laughs at the funny faces that end up being carved on the pumpkins.

I am totally with you about scary movies. They honestly aren’t the best. I love carving pumpkins for Halloween as well.

I can't stand carving pumpkins. The guts are so gooey and gross it makes my skin crawl.
