I think parents have the full right to check on their children when it comes to ensuring their safety and overall well-being. I think it's important in situations where the child could or might be a risk or could be engaging in somewhat harmful behavior. It's also important its balanced with fully respecting the child's privacy to make sure there's still trust. Having open communication and clear boundaries helps in finding the perfect balance.

I feel like it depends on what level of 'spying' is being used from the parents, if its overbearing and they're always watching them, then might be an issue. Just because a kid does need space and not be constantly watched and followed around. I think what can prevent a parent from being overbearing or like a helicopter parent is when the kid is at a friend's house or is at sporting events. I also think what might prevent this is when the kid gets older and has to understand certain subjects or things in the real world.
