Daily Literary Quote
"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
                                                                        -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Journal Prompt
Explain the above quote.  Why are "sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity" so dangerous? If Dr. King were alive today, what do you think he would say about the state of racism and human rights in the United States?

I think he means that seeing and not doing anything can be just as dangerous as committing the act. I think if he were alive today he would be disgusted with overall racism and the way our government goes about handling it.

This quote attempts to warn the human race about how ignorance and stupidity will be the downfall of us all. If Dr. Martin were alive today, he would more than likely be saying many things whether they be good or bad.

With context, it means that not acting on the what’s wrong with the world and standing by is cowardly and stupid. I think Dr. MLK would be mad and try to gain better equality in today’s world

Watching something bad happen and letting it happen without saying or doing anything can be just as bad as doing it yourself. I believe he would be very upset with the way the people are handling it with violence. He did not preach violence but nothing but peace.

If he were alive today I think he would be disgusted with how the U.S. went about wanting change. He wouldn’t be happy seeing riots and watching them burn down black owned businesses. He accomplished a lot without hurting anyone so I think he’d be disappointed with the violence.

When you are ignorant you don’t know much about the world it is dangerous because you don’t know what your walking into. When you are just stupid to be stupid you won’t succeed in life because you don’t want to.

Ignorance can be dangerous when people agree with something without knowing the possible consequences of such decisions. Dr. King would most likely not support the efforts that his own black people are making. He led peaceful protests and wouldn’t necessarily condone things such as the many riots that have happened.

I think they are dangerous because not doing anything can be just as problematic as doing something. I think Martin Luther King would be highly disappointed at the racism that takes place in this country. I think he would feel like all of his hard work hadn’t been put to good use.

I think this means that ignoring a problem is dangerous because not doing anything means you can’t have an opinion on it. If people are complaining then they shouldn’t just stand by. I think he would he would be disappointed with how alive racism still is today.

By this he likely means that to see the problem and not attempt to fix it is worse than being the cause of the problem. Dr. King would be very disappointed in the current idea of racism that our country seems to linger in. He would also choose to stand up and work on our current national disagreements when it comes to the race of a person.

The two are dangerous because there is a lack of willingness to change your state of mind and be open to being wrong. I think MLK would say that racism has gotten better that I his time but still exists and should end all together.

Its so dangerous to be ignorant because ignorance will cause you to ignore a problem. This can cause even more problems. I thibk Dr. Luther King would be proud of the progress will have made but would push for rascism to be completely eradicated.

It's dangerous because ignorance will cause a problem to become worse creating more problems. I think he would be mad because even though people now have changed we still think of each other differently and even some joke about racism.

It’s dangerous because the problem might get worst depending on how you try to fix it. I think he wouldn’t be happy. People are still fighting for equality and I think he would be disappointed with how slow things are moving.

The quote speaks on the bliss of ignorance and the consequences of turning a blind eye. Both of which are dangerous because neither add anything to society or put forth any effort to help a cause such as the Civil Rights Movement. If MLK were alive today I’m sure he would be proud that we have come so far as a society, but also deeply disappointed that we still allow these injustices to occur.

Ignorance and conscientious stupidly are dangerous because seeing these negative actions and doing nothing can be just as bad as doing the act itself. If he were alive today he would be absolutely disappointed and disgusted with the state of the world. Racism is very prominent and alive today and it’s sad to see that we’re only going backwards.

Human ignorance effects our society by leaving people uninformed or informed on false information. It almost works like a plague. If Martin was alive today, he would recognized that prejudice still exists just in a different form.
