Daily Literary Quote
"Nothing in all the world is more dangerous than sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity."
                                                                        -Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Journal Prompt
Explain the above quote.  Why are "sincere ignorance and conscientious stupidity" so dangerous? If Dr. King were alive today, what do you think he would say about the state of racism and human rights in the United States?

ignorance is bliss. some people don't realize how good they have it or how miserable they should be. stupidity can be dangerous because you can twist the truth without people knowing and people will believe a lot of stuff.

Being willingly ignorant and refusing to change is a constant theme in the world. People are not willing to change. It is the same as saying "I can throw this trash out the window, there is plenty of other people who don't litter. It cancels out, someone else will change it." It is dismissing a problem because you don't believe that it affects you. Dr. King would be disappointed in the laziness and growth of passive hate in the world. We have made small improvements but nothing changes unless we do.

I dont know why that would be dangerous. Maybe I am dumb. I think MLK would tell everyone to be happy with what they have and I think he would change the way things are going now with the ¨racism¨ in our country.

This quote means that ignorance can lead people to do things that they may regret. A lot of judgement comes from ignorance of people. It is dangerous because that is how a lot of the issues in the world come from ignorance and conscientious stupidity.

Sincere and ignorance is dangerous because if you don't. That a basketball for example if a undefeated team goes against the worst team the est team might make mistakes and loose.

I think what the quote means is that if you do not look for change then you will not improve in you improve as a person. If Mr. King was still alive I feel like he would say that racism is still a big problem in today's society.

In this quote Dr. King explains that being purposefully ignorant and ignoring facts is the most dangerous thing in the world. This is so dangerous because it can lead to us as a people ignoring issues that will inevitably guide us to our own demise. If Dr. King were alive today I believe that he would acknowledge the progress that we have made, but he would not cease the fight for total equality.

What he means by the quote is that when people don't know what's going on in the world or purposely ignore what's going on, then humanity is set to fail. That can be dangerous because without worldly empathy, every human being has the potential to become bitter and selfish. King definitely would have something to say about the current racial rights, but I also feel like he would be proud of how far that African-Americans have come politically, like having the first black president. I feel like there will always be some sort of racism, though.

The quote explains that ignorance is the biggest threat in the world, people need to start listening more and hearing both sides of the story. I think Dr. King would be proud of what the United States has come to and how racism has been abolished for the most part.

I think the quote is explaining that it is dangeorous to be ignorant when you know that it is truly wrong to do so.I think MLK would say that everyone has to understand that there well be stupid and impaitence people no matter what but the only think we can do is see past that and all love each other.

In order to live in a perfect utopia, one would need to have an open mind, especially the leaders of said place. Many have been lead astray because of a leader in ignorance. Many more by "trusted" and "honest" people of influence.

It is so dangerous because people will spread the word and believe things that aren't true but they think it is and you can't change their mind. I think if Dr. King was still alive he would be happy with the progress our country has made, but at the same time he would be disappointed. This is because even though black people have the same rights as everyone else, the country is still very racially divided.

He is saying that when someone is wrong and thinks they're right it can be dangerous. Especially if its racism or something like that. I think if Martin Luther King jr. was alive today he would be happy to see how things have gotten better.

The quote is saying that it is dangerous to have no knowledge on something, it is also dangerous to be concious that you have no knowledge on something. If you don't know something then you should try and learn it. If Martin Luther Kind Jr. were alive today I think he would be proud of how far we have come regarding races and equality. There is still racism seen in todays society but that is to be expected, it is hard to change who you are and see things from a different perspective.

What MLK is trying to explain in this quote is in the society today we have people who believe they are right with out having evidence or background to that belief. This is dangerous because it forms a cult almost of people who believe in something that has no evidence in proving that it is right and has what are society is now built off of. If MLK where alive to witness the racism today he would give another speech that would hopefully change the worlds out look on racism.

People purposefully ignoring problems are stupid and add to the problem; I think that is what the quote is saying. I think MLK would be quite upset at the way racial injustice is being treated. Everyone is just saying their opinion and will not stand to be objected.
