Daily Literary Quote
“You never really understand a person until you consider things from his point of view … until you climb into his skin and walk around in it.”
-Atticus Finch, To Kill a Mockingbird

Journal Prompt
Explain the quote above. Discuss a time when you heard multiple versions of the same event that contradicted one another (or someone else's recollection of an event was different than your own). Why did they differ? How do we determine "truth" in such occasions?

Our experiences are all different. Our emotions vary on how the situation made us feel, so every experience could mean something different for each person. To be empathetic, you have to think outside your own feelings and try to understand where they're coming from and why they're acting the way they are.

The picture represents the difference in perspective based on your current situations and narrow-mindedness.
There was one instance with my siblings that when my sister would steal my socks and I complained to my mom, but my sister denied everything. We soon found out she had the same socks as I did and she wasn't exactly stealing them.

Usually the main time someone has a different version of the story, its when my mom is lying to my dad and dramatizing how much of a terrible child I am.

Often times with siblings the stories told to avoid trouble are jumbled. No one seems to have committed the "crime" but there's always an explanation for why it wasn't you. The stories will differ because whatever one puts you in the best light is the one you're going to tell. Truth is determined through body language and eventual confession. Or an understanding of how the other person in question is going to be treated if the truth isn't revealed.

One example I have of this situation is when allen Iverson was in an interview and the people kept asking him about him missing practice. Iversons friend died earlier that week and missed one practice. the 76ers lost that week and the interveiwer was thinking it was because he missed practice. Iverson wasnt saying practice isnt important but that they should be talking about what happened in the game rather than what happened that week

The quote is stating that everyone sees, experiences, and remembers something differently from oneself. Until you see things from the same perspective or at least try to see things from another perspective no one will see the same thing. At family events when sharing stories everyone will tell the same story but it never sounds the same. They differed because though it was the same story everyone experienced or remembered it differently.

The quote above means that you don't truly know someones life and situation until you have lived it. Some people may called me spoiled because I have nice things but the truth is that I work for everything I have with no help from my parents.

The quote is saying that you never understand someone unless you have experienced the same things as them. There are times that I hear roomers and every time I hear about it, the story gets different every time.

It means you don't understand somebody unless you have seen everything how they did. We tend to jump to conclusions fast especially if something is fast like a fight or a crash people will remember it different

The quote above demonstrates that all people have a unique way of viewing their situations and surroundings. About a week ago people were telling me about the same event. I could understand how each person got to their own conclusion but that does not change the fact that neither person was able to think about it from the other persons perspective and it turned into an issue.

something you see could be seen differently by someone else. this could be viewed as political parties and their view of the world.

This quote means you will never know what it is like until you are put into that one persons perspective. I have heard a quote like this "Put yourself in their shoes." This is the same thing just different words. We find the truth in what we believe in if others do not agree.

The quote means that peoples opinions are different and point of views and you won't understand unless you can be them, or access their mind. A lot of times people contradict each other when arguing and all have different stories. We never determine truth because we will always beleive our own stories.

This is probably the most recurring event in my life due to the fact the people just think differently. An event like this brings a lot of stress but just remember that the best solution is what benefits both people the very best.A situation I had was I had an opinion that I thought was logical but the other person had their opinion as well and in the end we both agreed on the best positive outcome for both of us.

The quote mean that you can never really know how a person feels unless you change lives with them and are them for a day. In math I always find that a lot of people will have different answers than each other but found all the answers in there own similar way.
