Daily Literary Quote
“In essence the Renaissance was simply the green end of one of civilization’s hardest winters.”
                                                                              - John Fowles, The French Lieutenant’s Woman

Journal Prompt
Discuss a contemporary person (at least 20th century) you think is an ideal “Renaissance Man” (or Woman!) – someone who is accomplished in many disciplines, such as science, art, music, math, dance, acting, etc. – and why.

I think Elon Musk is an example Renaissance Man. He is very smart and the CEO of many companies. Most of those companies are very tech and science oriented. I feel like he could also get sturdy and be the life of a party if he wanted to.

Jeff Bezos because he is the founder of Amazon. I couldn't imagine a world without Amazon today. He is also a billionaire and gives money to charity and still has a spot on the board of Amazon.

I think Oprah Winfrey is an ideal renaissance women. The Oprah Winfrey Show, the highest-rated TV program of its kind in history, was hosted by Winfrey and won numerous awards. She founded The Oprah Magazine, is the chairman and CEO of her lucrative cable network, and is in charge of Harpo Films.

The Rock (Dwayne Johnson) is a modern day renaissance man. He has mastered the skills of wrestling, football, singing and acting. He was a professional wrestler and now that he retired wrestling he does acting and is in some of the most famous movies made in the last decade including Jumanji, Fast and Furious and Moana. He is also a huge Instagram influence coming in the top 5 people with the most followers on Instagram.

I think Ronald Reagan is a great example of a renaissance man. Not only did Reagan have a successful career in acting before entering politics but he also flourished in politics. He also had a very high IQ seeing as he ran in politics and ran a country which requires great intelligence.

Shayla McKenzie Cluff is someone who reminds me of a 20th century Renissance woman. She is talented in so many things such as math, art, hockey, soccer, running and so much more. She has accomplished so many things in life and will continue accomplishing more as her life goes on.

A person I think about who is talented in many different aspects is Bo Jackson. He played both professional football and baseball. In baseball he was a dominant hitter and base runner while in football he was an athletic freak running a 4.13 40 yard dash.
