I believe that just because you participate in a competition doesn't mean you should get an award for competing. Only winners should get awards because they worked hard to get to the top. Not trying to be mean but you should only get rewarded for winning not just for showing up and competing.

The advantages of of not being rewarded for just showing up creates more of a competative surrounding because if you want a reward you have to win.The disadvantages of this is it could lead to less people wanting to be competative because they want a reward for just showing up.

I completely agree with you. People who are given awards should earn it not just show up.

I agree the people who work the hardest and do the best should be the ones to get the award.

I don't believe everyone should receive participation awards for every event regardless of their skill level. When everyone receives an award I believe it discourages everyone's hunger to win since everyone will receive an award anyway. I also think it can diminish the actual winners status because it doesn't set them apart from everyone else. Some advantages of giving everyone an award is that everyone feels included but the disadvantages would be it makes the winning trophies shine less.

I agree with you that not everybody should get a reward for showing up, it should be a lesson for you that if you want to win you have to put in effort!

I think that getting a participation award defeats the purpose of getting awards. Getting 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place medals were made for obviously made for the first 3 placers. If you give everyone a medal it makes the people who actually trained for the sport seem as though they did it for nothing as the others got participation awards for just showing up. People should just get an award for the first 3 places.

with my experience racing, you only really win if you get 1st and in any other spot you lost. people just like to be generous.

I completely agree with you, others may think that they're better than everyone else if they don't try as hard as the winner.

I agree. Medals and trophies were made for the people who train, try their hardest and win. Not for everyone who participates.

Participation trophies are a way for people to feel good about failing, to put it in harsh terms. If we were to always give out participation trophies, it belittles the actual winners, 1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc. Now this isn't saying that people who didn't win at the top are terrible at whatever practice they were competing in. However, if we make people have a sense of accomplishment for coming in worse than the best, it might make them believe that they no longer have to strive to be better than before.

That is a good way to think about participation trophies, that they make people feel good about failing.

I believe that participation awards are not a good idea, I believe the thought behind them is good, but when it comes down to it they are not good. They take attention away from the winners who put hard work and effort and time into trying to win something. It makes it frustrating for the winners and it also makes it so that people wouldn't have as much motivation to work hard to win because they would just get a trophy anyways.

I agree because the meaning and thought behind it may be good but when you look a little bit closer you understand why it may not be a good idea.

I don't think so because it would mean we are all equal in some way and that would be against our nature because if everyone is equal then the is no fun in life. On the other hand, it would be good because it is a reason to tell people to shut up and keep going.

No definitely not. I think people that work so incredibly hard to achieve at an activity and it pays off deserve a higher award than everyone else. For example if every one gets the same reward than there is absolutely no reason to train or work hard, becoming the best in the world. What I do like about participation awards is it can inspire someone or a group of people to really push and reach for the stars.

I 100% agree. The winners do work really hard to receive a trophy, when everyone gets a trophy it's like a slap to the winners face.

I don't think that everyone should receive a participation award. This is because if you give everyone an award nobody trys. You lose the motivation to do your best and to excel at the thing you're doing. It's like giving every kid an A+ on their assighnment just for turning it in. Those students who worked hard for that grade was just put on the same level as those who didn't anwser one question on the assighnment. Giving participation awards to everyone is just trying to make everyone feel the same and not equal. The advantages that we can gain from everyone winning is that those who didn't do so well don't feel like a failure. The disadvantages are the lack of growth that would happen if everyone was given an award. Nobody would try in anything if everyone would have the same out come. In summery a participation award shouldn't be given out to everybody.

I feel that not everyone should receive an award because it can diminish the value of winning in an event. It can send the wrong message about winning, putting hard work and effort in something only for everyone to get an award. It doesn't give the winner that feeling of accomplishment. People also won't try as hard knowing that they'll get an award anyways. Some advantages to everyone getting an award is that you'll be including everyone and will make others confident in themselves. Some disadvantages though are that people could just not try as hard since it won't matter to win anyways. It can also alter a child's mind into thinking that they're really good at something when they still need a lot of training and practice, also isn't fair for who put in all the work to actually win.

it doesn't make sense to give everyone a false sense of accomplishment. it will just encourage people to be lazier and do less.

No, awards are used to show handwork. People won't work as hard if all you have to do is participate for an award. An advantages might be getting more people to participate s there would be more competition but it would not be very competitive cause people wouldn't have to try as hard

No, I don't think that everyone should receive a participation award for every competitive event because it takes away the thrill, excitement, and motivation to succeed. When competing, some people need motivation to try their best and try to win but if there is an automatic prize then what is the point of trying at all.

I think only younger kids should get a participation reward because it helps motivate them to keep doing something. Once people get to around seven I think participation awards are unnecessary because you know if you won or lost and that's what's fun about competitions. Getting a participation award defeats the purpose of a competition because you have no motivation to continue working hard to win.

I completely disagree. Giving children a participation trophy only makes them okay with what they are at. They won't push themselves to become greater which will only hurt them in the long run.

I can somewhat agree with this. Although, we have to be careful for how long we would give these trophies to younger people. If it is for too long, then we might falsify a sense of everything being handed to them on a "silver platter".

I feel that giving younger kids can also make them feel that they're better than others and they may not practice as hard because they already thing they're really good.

No, just because you participated in an event doesn't mean you should be getting a participation trophy. Receiving one and being happy with it is being okay with trying. Trying isn't good enough. You should always be pushing yourself to become a better version of yourself and keep yourself improving. Giving a participation trophy to little kids shouldn't happen either. While they may be jealous of the kids that did get an award, giving them a trophy is like feeding an addict drugs. It only hurts them in the long run. It shows the children that they always deserve an award whether they tried or not creating a bad work ethic.

I agree that always giving little kids awards can create a bad habit of always expecting one. I also believe though that once they realize they don't get one it can fuel a want for a trophy pushing them further.

I disagree, I think young kids who don't really know what they are doing need some sort of motivation to keep going and get better. If you don't give them anything and say "you suck" they will most likely hate whatever they were competing in and never do it again.
