"Maycomb's usual disease" is going mad whenever a black person walks by. She might catch it by listening to he other townspeople. Some other "diseases" we have in our society today would be rumors, gossip, foul language, etc.
Gossip is a major disease and I usually hear about it at school and in different work places.
That's a great example. If the child hears their mom gossiping, they will think they need to also.
I can agree with gossip and rumors
I think the disease that Atticus was talking about is the hate towards blacks, she might catch it by believing what others have biassly told her and not looking at the whole picture of racism in their society at the time. A major disease we have in our society today is substance abuse. People are using these substances for a good time and not for what they are meant or designed for, and I believe this is a major issue.
I agree hat substance abuse is a major disease in our society today.
Another thing with that is we don't teach what for kids to do when they get it. Instead it's a don't do this kind of thing. I think that just makes it worse.
That is definitely a very big issue people who are substance abusers should definitely try very hard to stop .
Many people think that addiction is an actual disease too.
I think that disease is racism. She might catch it by only hearing one point of view. Some diseases we have come from that. Just like Jesse's experience seeing an African American when he was little, they are going to point and shout if they aren't taught their point of view too.
I agree racism is still an ongoing issue in our society today, and only way for people to learn this trait is if they are taught.
I agree that he thinks she'll catch it by hearing a point of view
That is a very good point if you aren't taught anything different then you don't know what you're doing is wrong.
She would be racist because she wouldn't try to interact with them.
This is "disease" is referring to racism. Scout could catch it just by listening to a black person's point of view. Gossip or rumors would be some other "diseases" in society.
Gossip and rumors are definitely some of the diseases in society today.
The disease they are talking about is racism. Some diseases in today's societ is drama, rumors, and bullying all of which are very dangerous.
Rumors and bullying happened a long time ago too, not just our generation.
Drama and rumors are Big diseases in smaller towns like Salmon.
Bullying and rumors happen a lot. Especially in a small town.
Bullying is very dangerous one. This has spread to much of our society and is very harmful.
The disease is racism. He wants her to treat somebody with respect even if they are black. She can learn it by just listening to others in her town. We have the disease of being lazy these days.
Good point, laziness is a big one.
I agree that Atticus wants her to treat everyone with respect and that laziness is a common "disease"
The disease is when everyone in Macomb follow each other's beliefs. All of them seem to believe blacks are bad and lesser than whites. Scout could catch it from kids at school, she might say and believe what those kids do so she fits in better and isn't bullied. A disease in our society is social media drama.
I like how you said she would do a "follow the leader" kind of thing so she doesn't become an outcast.
I agree that she might try to fit in. Even though scout is very opinionated, she still wants to fit in and be liked.
The disease is racism. She might catch it by believing what everybody had told her and only seeing things from one point of view. A disease we have today is gossip and drama.
If she didn't have here father she would so easily believe what the town said.
Gossip, never would have thought of it. Awesome example! Sadly, I feel like all of us can suffer from that every once in a while.
The disease that they are talking about is racism. The whole town is very racist and Scout could "catch" it by just listening to anyone talk. She is still young and her views are influenced by others and their beliefs. Some diseases in our society today are laziness, and stereotyping people.
Laziness has become a very common disease in society
I didn't finish, but I agree that her views could be influenced by society.
I agree her opinions can be easily influenced.
The disease is racism. People could catch it by listening to others and only one side. Today there is still racism but there is drama and bullying.
Maycombs disease is thinking that they are better than the African American people. Everyone in the town is racial beside A couple people in the Finch family.
And she would catch it from everyone in town because it was normal. The disease today is laziness.
I have definitely struggled with laziness. How about you?
"Maycomb's usual disease" is the overall hatred toward the African American people of the day. Scout could catch the disease if she listened to other folks of Maycomb and ignored her father. One example of a disease in our society is racicm and segregation, much like the one in the book.
If she listened to her father she would be okay.
This is racism. You can catch it by being around a black person. One disease we have is racism as well like shown in the book.
Write something about yourself. No need to be fancy, just an overview.
