In today’s world there is a wide variety of fast food options. Although I am grateful for all of the dining out options that are available, I feel like it has been a major factor in the country’s obesity rise. Does your family dine in or dine out more often, and which do you rather?
As we all know, the United States is known for having higher percentages of overweight people. There are many different factors that contribute to this, but I believe the invention of fast food and being able to eat out whenever it works best has played a major role in this. My family does not eat out very often, unless we are out of town obviously. I know some families that eat the majority of their meals at restaurants, or they order food to go from different places. The convenience of this is beneficial, but it does not create healthy habits. Personally, I enjoy a homemade meal significantly more than a meal that is bought because it is adjusted to my family’s preferences. However, going out to eat is sometimes nice and has its benefits, such as; not having to clean the kitchen, and being able to try new things. I think that people would be more willing to make their own meals if we did more research on how it can help us make healthier food choices.

Both my mom and dad are amazing cooks, so we have always made meals at home. Moreover because I learned to cook from my parents, I prefer to make my own meals than go out and eat. Eating at home gives the closure that I know what I am putting in my body. Although it can be nice to avoid the dishes and the time spent cooking, by dining at a restaurant, I prefer to be in the comfort of my own home. Overall if I could choose one or the other, I would decide to eat in the majority of the time.

I think it's really great that you have the ability to cook and make your own meals. It is a skill that needs to have, especially when one is out on their own for the first time. College students have to learned how to budget and ration so they don't get low on food. Those who can't cook and rely on fast food aren't getting the right nutrients. That can affect their learning and overall health. Cooking is something I am personally working on that way I can provide for myself in college.

Fast food started out as a way for people to get a good hearty dinner that was fast, but it brought communities and families together. It changed the ways of what it used to be. After a sporting event, people would go and celebrate. It provided the new generation a job for after school or on the weekends. Now a days, these fast-food chains have lost all original values and are in it to make some quick money. We know that this food isn't good for us and it's overpriced. Again, fast food back then used to be good, nutritious food for a decent price. My family doesn't really go out to eat very often. One there really many options in Salmon and with my family of seven, the bill can be quite expensive. When we travel and there are more options, we go out to eat more. It's really unfortunate to see what the fast-food industry used to be and what it is now.

Shaylee, I like what you said about the price. Now that my siblings are too old for the kids menu, getting meals for a family of five, or six including my grandma can cost around or even over $100 which almost doesn’t make the experience worth it.

I also find it sad that so many people eat fast food, it’s very unhealthy and won’t ever fully satisfy one’s needs. I always ponder on how we as a society can try to improve the average persons food choices.

My family consists of six people, so I know what you mean about the cost of the bill. It is much cheaper to make our own meals at our house. I too agree that fast food chains are no longer there to make bonds and connections, but instead just a way to make an insane income.

Yes eating out with a family of seven is going to be a bit costly, but I think our minds are skewed based on where we live. Fast food prices seem more expensive because Saveway can't afford to jack up prices. Living in Boise it was way cheaper to eat out when Walmart or some other big corporation decided that hamburger is 35 dollars a pound.

Luckily, my mom, dad, and grandma all have amazing cooking abilities. And therefore have taught me how to cook as well. We eat at home all the time, and I love coming home to one of my favorite family recipes or even coming home and testing new recipes myself. As a family, we only eat out on special occasions, and I’m not a huge fan of it myself. I think me working for the food industry has made eating out a little hard. If I was ever given the choice, I’d choose a home cooked meal any day.

There is nothing better than coming home from a sporting event and having a home cooked meal prepared. What is your favorite meal that your family makes?

My family also is blessed with good cooks, I have never had to worry that my parents food would be bad, or that I was not getting all of my food groups. However, perhaps if I did not have the upbringing that I did I would not have the resources that I do now, I think that the proper diet should be taught in school, for kids with out these options.

I'm glad that you were taught basic life skills by the people mentioned. But I like the comment about working in the food industry, with all my previous jobs being in the food service it's definetly made me eat out less knowing what some workers get away with.

While I do enjoy eating a nice meal at home since it's easier than strapping my family down to go out, I understand why most people do eat out so frequently. In most cases it's generally cheaper to just go to a restaurant for meals compared to buying the constantly overpriced ingredients at the supermarket. Of course this take is less justifiable when getting into families with more people but if you're living alone eating out for your meals might just save you money in the long run.

I like how you point out the produce is overpriced, because it is. I think that's why a lot of people in America are overweight. They can't afford to eat health so they will go out to eat. Either was someone eats it will be overpriced in our economy.
