When the new year starts you see people all over posting about their goals for the new year, something they’re leaving in the past, or coming up with a word to live by. I’ve never been one for New Year’s resolutions, but this year one kind of struck me. When it comes to thinking of the year ahead, we’re about to graduate, move out, head to college, or just head to a new place. It’s definitely intimidating, scary, and exciting, but we’re all going to be entering adulthood together.
As this time approaches, I’ve told myself that my goal is to trust my path. Trust that what happens after graduation is what is meant to happen in my life and see where it takes me. To trust that good things are coming ahead no matter how scary it may seem. This is big for me, as I doubt things often, but I hope that this goal helps to take the stress off of life ahead. As well as achieve this goal of trusting my path ahead, I hope to achieve success, no matter how small. My question for you is, do you have any goals for the future? Whether you’re a planner or not, what do you want to accomplish?

New Year's resolutions are something that are seen as both amazing and disappointing. People fall into the idea of being a new person and that everything will change. Obviously, that is not the case and that is why so many people are angry after falling of their resolutions after the first month. I for one used to make unbelievable goals for myself and get disappointed later. This year I've tried to take it down and will just be happy with the outcome. Some of my goals are to take better care of myself, more exercise and better sleep, but others are learning how to cook and budget so when I move out, I'll be ready for college. Not making an impossible goal but something more attainable is how one should make the New Year's resolution.

I also have the same sentiment towards New Year's resolutions, they often are another thing to be dissatisfied with. Just as you, I have chosen to look towards the bid deadlines, like attending college and preparing for adulthood, and of course continuing to better myself.

Shaylee, I too want to take care of myself and learn more adult like characteristics this year. I think that the challenge of New Year’s resolutions should be a reminder to ourselves to continue working on that aspect in our lives rather than a commitment we have to commit to immediately, for a long period of time. I think this is why it often leads to disappointment.

The idea of not achieving your goal is commonplace in the world. All these people trying to either lose 100 pounds or something along those lines. It's a never ending cycle of making a goal and then not doing it.

I have never committed myself to New Years resolutions because they often are unreasonable and never happen. One can say, "I'm going to the gym 5 times a week for a year," yet it never happens, which is always disappointing. This year is slightly different for me, considering the goals I have to commit to such as, graduating and going to college, applying to scholarships and accomplishing any other graduation goals, these are what I would consider my New Years resolutions.

I agree with on the fact that resolutions are more unreliable and end up being disappointing. I would fall for it and end up being angry with myself for quitting with them after month. While I do have some goals in mind, they are more realistic and will allow growth for the future.

I agree with you, and how you noted that these goals can be disappointing. It is not easy to get in the habit of doing something, and just because a new year starts doesn’t make it any easier. I am going to focus on the same goals you stated as well.

I'm sure your goals for this year are completely doable. Since you're obviously graduating high school this year and college is a path in your future. All I say is good luck on your resolutions.

Like the rest of you, I too have never set any New Year’s Resolutions. I wouldn’t say this is because I don’t set goals for myself, I do, but it is just something that isn’t always possible. Each year I try to better myself in many ways, but it hasn’t been because of goals I set at the beginning of a year. It is because I allow myself to grow even when I am not intending to. If I were to set New Year’s Resolutions for myself this year, it would be to be happier with myself, and not worry so often.

I think that it's really great how you don't allow the New Year to make you, but you make the changes yourself. How you mention the part about growth is very true because while we think the New Year will go our way, it doesn't

I have the same sentiment towards New Year's resolutions, it feels pointless to set a goal that never happens. Just like you, I choose to try and better myself consistently, rather than feeling disappointed in myself and discouraged.

I don't have a New Years Resolution this year. Every year I say I'm going to be a better person or something along those lines, but I always know it's a lie. I'm to great to change.
