As we are approaching our high school graduation, I'm sure we have all had someone ask this question, "What are you doing after high school?" Now when I first started getting asking this question, I would give exact details of what I wanted to do. That only lasted about the first ten people. I realized that most people don't really care about the small things, just if it's a big school or how much money the profession of my choice would bring me. That's what most of society wants with its newcomers, for them to become doctors and lawyers. But there is the other side that says to do things that'll make one happy. Doing their passion all their life is more fulfilling and it won't matter how much money it makes. One does not need to go to college to make anything out of life. So that is the question, is happiness more important than success?
When it comes down to this thought, I would say happiness is more important than success. However, that is a scary statement to say. I know that for myself when I head off to college, I want to go into theatre studies. That is a profession that isn't very well making in income and not everyone would recommend, but I love it. While it'll probably be my minor and I'm looking at other options for a degree, performing is something that is worth spending the money on to me. Everyone has to make some sort of income to survive in our society, and I believe that while one is making that money, they should be happy while doing it.

This is a hard question to answer because I feel that both happiness and success are important. They come hand in hand, often success brings happiness, and happiness brings success. This is because if one is depressed while working, they will not be as efficient. On the other hand, if one is not in the position to be successful, they will not feel fulfilled, in general. However, I feel that happiness is the more important of the two. For example, I would rather be low/middle class and happy, than rich and depressed. Relating back to what you said, Shaylee, I feel that the best outcome is to have a good job that you love.

I like how you mentioned that if one does not enjoy their job they will not be as efficient. This made me realize that success would be difficult to reach if you weren’t being efficient because you would never be moving up in rank and getting bonuses. I believe that, because of this reason, it is better to think of one’s happiness rather than success.

I totally agree with you Shaylee. I have always wanted to do something with kids for my profession, whether it be elementary education or pediatric nursing. When I explained this to people they always made comments of how one makes much more money than they other, but that never bothered me. I want to do something that I will go to work everyday and be thankful that so chose to do what I did.

I agree with you, I personally don't care how prestigious my career is as long as it gives me the option to be financially stable. I know many people that are willing to work a job they hate because of a drive for money. I always have wondered how some can stand a job they hate, I do not know if I would, or could.

I definitely could not have a job for the rest of my life that I hate. It would affect me in many different aspects of life. What do you want to go into?

I feel like your happiness is definitely important, but in the society we live in success is also as important. I plan to pursue my dreams after high school and try to make them come true, but if I am not successful in my dreams I will have to find something else to accomplish.
