If We Were Stranded on an Island....

Have you ever been asked the question, “If you were stranded on an island would you rather have ‘this’ or ‘that’?” It’s a very popular question that comes with many variables ranging from food items to people, and it can be hard to choose. Whenever I have been asked this question it always is funny to me when I’m asked to choose between food items. One time in an English class I was asked “If you were stranded on an island would you rather only have sandwiches or pasta for every meal you had to eat?” This one was funny to me because of all the arguments students made to support their decisions. Now if I asked you that same question what would your answer be?

I would choose sandwiches because I feel as though the definition of a sandwich could be very broad. Firstly, there are many different types of sandwiches, hot or cold, ham and cheese or peanut butter and jelly, there are many variations. Also, I would define a sandwich as item A stuffed in between two layers of item B, so therefore tacos and many other yummy things would be considered sandwiches.

I too would choose sandwiches over pasta. I feel like there is such a wide variety of different types of sandwiches, as with pasta too, but more so with sandwiches. Also, I believe any type of sandwich can be eaten without being heated, which would be nice if there was no access to have that ability. I like how you brought up how tacos can be a sandwich because it reminded me of this summer when I was at Syringa Girls State, there was an actual debate on this topic. It is funny to see how people can find specific details to argue about on a topic as silly as this.

I thought it was very funny too as Krissy brought up the debate of a taco being a sandwich. For it being such a small thing, people will go into full blown heated arguments over something like this. I like to think people are entitled to their opinion but is it really worth it over some things so small. In a way no, but then it brings funny topics like this.

I just wanted to say that this is a very funny and interesting topic. It's very true that everyone can disagree over the little things because everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am going on the pasta side of this topics. Pasta is more filling and has more calories, so if one is stranded on an island, I'd like to think they could last longer. As the same as a sandwich, there are many different types of pasta. One could add seafood, chicken, a type of cheese, and all the sauces that can be marinated with it. My favorite type of pasta is lasagna or chicken alfredo.

I never took into perspective the fact that pasta could provide more calories than sandwiches. I am not a big fan of pasta though, so I would probably still choose to live off of sandwiches rather than pasta.

I'm so glad we have another person on the whole pasta debate, I really liked your take on caloric density because yeah, when being on an island you're going to need more calories to survive

I would choose sandwiches, because just like you were saying there are so many variations of sandwiches. Plus, I’m not a fan of many white sauced pastas, therefore about half of the pasta options would be out of the question for me. Not only this, but the question comes up; what is a sandwich? Anything put in between two pieces of bread. For example, I could get a steak, but just ask for it to be put in the middle of two slices of bread. The options are endless.

I never took into account the idea that personal taste would play such an important role. Obviously not liking Alfredo would cut the possibilities by such a large margin. However alfredo would most likely be the best decision since it's so calorically dense. Alfredo being mostly butter and heavy whipping cream means its so fattening that you'd be able to live off it on said island.

In this debate I think that pasta is the only way to go. While Krissy did explain that sandwiches' are a broad way to make any meal but pasta is just as customizable. You have the type of noodle (whole grain being the best), the shape of the noodle and you have all the fillings. All the meats and veggies you can equip this pasta with is almost limitless and will taste better than a sandwhich.

Although there are many different types of pasta, there are also a significant amount of sandwiches. There are so many different kinds of bread and fillings.
