As Idahoans, we've all eaten our fair share of potatoes throughout our lives. It's all we're known for. Idaho potatoes are staples, and yet they come in so many different styles. You got boiled and baked, mashed, scalloped and even more than that. Potatoes are a comfort food and how one enjoys their potatoes can show what they're like. So I'm asking, what's your favorite style of potato and why?
For me, I believe the best potato style is hashbrowns. A lovely golden plate of crispy hashbrowns is the best way to open up a day. Plus, if you smother them in sausage gravy, it's sure to taste even better. I like hashbrowns because of my grandmother, whenever we stayed over at her house she always fixed us up a great heaping of hashbrowns. And whenever she tried to make latkes (Jewish potato pancakes) there would always be leftover potatoes to make hashbrowns for the next mornings' breakfast. It's both taste and nostalgia that gets me coming back.

My favorite preparation of potatoes is scalloped potatoes, but not just any scalloped potatoes, they are the best from a box. I’m not sure why homemade scalloped potatoes have never been compared to the ones from a box. Possibly, it is just what I am used to, however they are richer in flavor to me. Another reason is because of the nostalgia, as a kid I never knew they were from a box, I thought my mom or grandma had made them, now that I know it makes them even better (something so good can be made from a box)!

I love that you have a love for a food that comes from a box. Essentially, because most of the time, processed foods get tossed to the side when compared to the home cooked stuff. But it's funny how nostalgia works like that. Like how one a person is sick, the remedy is chicken noddle soup. Food just plays a weird but impactful impression on a person growing up.

I do not think I have ever had scalloped potatoes, but now I want to try them. I love how you remember them from your childhood also! My family makes this cherry cheesecake from a box that is so much better than the homemade options. It’s funny to me how that works!

I love seeing how much the feeling of scalloped potatoes mean to you. I’ve never been a fan of the taste of them, but I’m glad that somebody else has a good feeling about a food item that reminds them of family things like I do!

My favorite type of potato is either the mashed potato or a baked potato. Mashed potatoes are the classic things to find on the thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. It's something I look forward to every holiday feast. Especially when there all warm and buttery, it's just the best. As for the baked potato, I love adding all the toppings onto it. Like sour cream, green onions, and bacon bits. A baked potato is either the best main course or the best side dish if one wanted to add it with their steak like I like to do.

I also love mashed potatoes, that was my runner-up, after scalloped potatoes. It is cool how each person's family and traditions create such different preferences in food pallets.

There really is no way to go wrong with potatoes. I look forward to mashed potatoes at all of the different holidays too. My biggest struggle at restaurants is deciding which type of potato I want.

While most are inclined to like mashed potatoes, your love of the baked kind. I'm typically used to people pushing it aside for other options, myself included. While the taste of the baked potato is tasty it's just simply the worst.

I like all kinds of potatoes, but my favorite are french fries. French fries go with a lot of different meals, or alone. They can be dipped in an abundant of sauces making them very versatile. Although french fries are just a skinny fried potato, they can be made in separate ways. Some options are steak, wedges, curly, waffle, crispy, salty, etc. I could eat french fries with every meal if I had to.

It's peculiar that only one person decided to bring up French fries in this little discussion. If you had asked me before what the majority likes it would be the simple fry. Actually, when talking about this in my math class almost everyone said the fry, including Mr.Heald. Simply a popular choice in Salmon.

Yes, I would definitely say that fries are in the top pick for most people especially in the fast-food industry. Almost every fast-food chain has it certain fry whether it be crimped, straight or curly. That and they have the certain taste as well. And what great about that it is all the different sauce one could mix with just like you mentioned.

I didn’t even think about french fries at first, and I’m sad I didn’t! French fries are good with anything and I always love to have them! On the weekends I love making them in the air fryer!

My favorite kind of potato is definitely mashed potatoes! Mashed potatoes always bring me a sense of home, since I always eat them at family dinners. They’re always involved in holiday celebrations as well. I love instant mashed potatoes, but homemade mashed potatoes will always have a special place in my heart. I love eating the ones my grandparents make at Thanksgiving, and the ones my mom makes whenever she has extra time.
