Age Limit for Energy Drinks? (Zack)

In our school I've seen so many middle schoolers walking around with cans apon cans of redbull and related drinks. Some of these kids can't go hours without the insane amount of caffeine they're drinking. The question I'm asking is: Should there be an age limit for the consumption of energy drinks.

Personally I think there should be am age limit. Caffeine in large amounts are dangerous to humans, leading to faster heartbeats which eventually cause heartattacks. The FDA recommends no more than 400mg of Caffeine for an adult man. And a can of Redbull has around 200, and some of these middle school kids are drinking 2-3 cans in a span of the class time. These kids are literally killing themselves and I think there should be an age limit for energy drinks, maybe 17-18 or make it 21 like with alcohol. Caffeine is a killer.

I agree that there should be an age limit on the consumption of energy drinks. It is crazy that we hear these thirteen-year-old bragging on the facts that all they had to consume that day was energy drinks. They are unhealthy and an addiction in a form. The human body is able to regenerate energy after a full eight hours of sleep. But now young people stay up all night either playing video games or staying up on their phone, knowing that they can rely on an energy drink in the morning to get them through the day. Now I know that sometimes young people will stay up late into the night for homework, but it is still something that could be prevented. I believe that there should be an age limit for caffeinated drinks, around the age of 16 and up would suffice.

Shaylee, I'm so glad you agree and I'm completely agreeing with you that an addiction is indeed forming in these younger kids. My brother is only 13 and is already dependent on a daily redbull to get him up and moving, its shocking that only 5 years ago kids my age weren't close to drinking themselves dead on caffeine. A change has to be made

There is no doubt that the want for caffeine is an addiction. Although it does not provide the same results as alcohol does right away, it is almost as bad as alcohol in the long run. It can cause so many heart issues, and if people are beginning these habits younger and younger each year the risk is only going to continue increasing.

Personally, I do not enjoy the taste of Redbull or most energy drinks, so I do not have to worry about this concern for myself. However, I do believe it is an issue for many consumers. I too see all of the middle schoolers drinking energy drinks constantly and do not understand why their parents are not more concerned for their safety. I don’t know if any of you have ever seen videos in which people boil down a Monster drink, but the results are a black tar. If this is true, there is no reason anybody should be consuming these drinks let alone young children. Zack, I agree with you that there should be an age limit on energy drinks.

I wish I could say I hated the taste of energy drinks because I'm guilty of drinking sometimes 4 a week. It's very hard to stop drinking them because they're just so good. I also have a problem with drinking four cups of coffee a day to give me the same kick.

Sidney, I also do not enjoy the taste of Redell or any other energy drink. Sometimes the caffeinated drink I enjoy to stay up late would be a Pepsi. It is crazy that people have the information of how bad would caffeinate drinks are but choose to overlook it and consume anyway. People should take another look at food or drink and realized what they are putting in their bodies.

I agree with you Shaylee. I do not understand why people still choose to put that stuff into their bodies. Oddly enough, caffeine does not even affect my body so I never crave it. The only thing I crave is carbonation.
