Is college necessary? In today's job climate, a degree does not guarantee work anymore. There are numerous studies that show this, yet college is still shoved down every high schoolers' throat. Why is that?

College is not for everyone but for those who want to expand their knowledge by going to high school it actually does help with job benefits. While colleges do not guarantee a secure job going to college does give you a bump in pay at most jobs that you go to. Hi schools however need to stop making college is the next step after high school.

While a college degree can definitely give you a foot up on the pay scale in most career paths, the issue of having to pay off college debt can also be a step backwards that people with vocational jobs or just simply high school diplomas don't have to deal with.

Degrees do usually mean higher pay, but in many situations trade school students come away with valuable skills and far less debt. Both are good options but one should not be forced over the other.

Other forms of post secondary education such as trade schools or job preparation classes can also expand a student’s knowledge and give them an advantage over other job candidates.

Exactly. College will still more likely than not raise the amount of money of steady income you attain. However I think college should still be written off as the next step after high school because those that take a year off of school and then try to go back usually don’t pan out.

A post secondary education should be sought after but that doesn't necessarily mean that it must come in the form of college. Trade schools and other vocational schools are always a good option to take the next step beyond a high school diploma and can be helpful in becoming more successful in finding a specific career. The benefit of having a degree from a college or university grants the proof of not only education specific to the degree but also a higher general education that can be necessary for some jobs in the work force. This is why it is pushed on high schoolers so forcefully because it is extremely beneficial to have the paper that proves the strive for a greater education.

A piece of paper like you say is very powerful, but sometimes it means nothing in the real world. A person may be able to pass school saying they can do their job, but when it comes to the real experience they have none.

While post secondary education had many benefits, schools need to stop forcefully pushing students towards college even if beneficial because happiness is more important and level of education.

College is not for everybody, but some form of further education should be. Without a secondary education quality jobs are very difficult to find and get. That education may come from college or a trade school, but either way is necessary for a higher paying job. College though should not always be shoved down kids theorists as you say, but should be represented as a quality option.

The public education system seems to simply tell us that college is the only way to go without providing the information to why that is or what other options there might be. People might be more accepting to the idea of continuing their education if they didn't feel like college was the only route.

I agree that college should instead be displayed as one of the many valuable options for success, but not the only one.

I side with your idea on the different choices that are availed to secondary students, with college and a trade school. In many cases a college degree is becoming so necessary that one can not find work without it.

In order to obtain a higher paying job a secondary school of some kind is necessary. It is still possible to live a successful life without doing such a thing.

It is very common to see students that graduate and go into working instead of college. Many of those people are still doing well, some college graduates are in debt, and extra jobs to pay their debts. Do you think it is necessary for those who do not enjoy school to continue education even when they are succeeding.

The biggest reason that high schoolers are told that college is the only step toward success is because of the influence that universities have on the education system. Since colleges are making so much money from nearly every student attending them, the continue to use this influence the display that college is required for all students.

Yes in many cases the encouraged idea to go to college is influenced by economical or financial status rather than to gain knowledge and become an independent.

Since the establishment of the first college they have been designed to give young adults an education beyond secondary school. And for many years it has been the required path to obtain success. However, with the invention of technology came infinite knowledge to valued recourses. With the ability to gain this knowledge through our phones the urge to college has been significantly decreased. I personally feel that the path towards a college degree provides the ability to acquire a job that is stable and forces the recipient into the norms of society; a nine to five, five days a week to only receive a check that barley covers the cost of life's expenses. But, when one chooses not go to college, they enter into an environment that is much more dangerous and requires undivided attention. This path can lead to ultimate finical freedom, or it can leave you without a penny to spend.

Going to college or not going to college does not determine your life’s out come entirely. It has to do with character and self determination no matter what you do post high school.

College has never been necessary. It’s common knowledge you can live without going to college and getting a masters in anything. However college allows you to have more opportunities in work that you actually enjoy. It also opens up the door to be paid more than an average income. This is achievable without a college degree but is a lot easier with one. Ultimately college is shoved down every high schoolers throat to try and make us look more educated as a country. The fact of the matter is college isn’t for everyone and that is okay.

You’re right college is not for everyone, and we can live without it. Yet when finding higher paying jobs it is important to have a college degree.

College is not required to have a job that can provide, nor has it ever been. But it does provide more job opportunities and better pay, those things come easier with a college degree. Yes, there is a lot of information we learn in high school that probably won’t be used in the real world. But it also teaches us how to be social, problem solving, and how to work with others. High school is more than just classes.
